With the first week of the NFL taking its toll on many bettors, our MLB handicapper looks to the short baseball betting card on Monday to pick up some more wins to build your bankroll. Read on as Mark Lathrop makes his Monday MLB Picks of the Day!

With the Dodgers coming into this series losers of 10 straight games, our MLB handicapper believes that an offensive explosion can’t be too far off. A vulnerable opposing starter is just what the doctor ordered for us to take the Over in this game.'

Dodgers vs. Giants

Chris Stratton of the Giants struggles mightily against left handers this year, and has allowed a .306 BAA to southpaws in the major leagues this year. That bodes well for the Dodgers in this matchup, as does his terrible 4.97 BB/9 rate on the season. There are just too many good left handed batters in the Dodgers lineup, and the opportunity for runners to be on base via walks, to suggest that they can’t touch up Stratton for more than a few runs in this game.

Kenta Maeda takes the pill for the Dodgers in his first start against the Giants on the season. He was 2-1 against them last year, yet every game went over the listed total. He has a career ERA of 4.58 and WHIP of 1.67 against the Giants, but we won’t need him to give up more than 3 runs for this game to go over the listed total in my opinion. I won’t pick the Dodgers to win this game, but I will take them to get out of their offensive funk to go Over 8 runs as one of my Monday MLB Picks of the Day.

With one team fading away into oblivion and the other in the middle of the NL Wild Card race, our MLB handicapper takes the team with something to play for in one of his Monday MLB picks.

Pirates vs. Brewers

The Brewers are hot and rookie Brandon Woodruff takes the mound in the first game of this series against the slumping Pittsburgh Pirates. Woodruff led the minor leagues in strikeouts in 2016 with some of that success spilling over into his 2017 experiences. He has a 3.40 FIP since joining the Milwaukee rotation and an excellent 4.8% HR/FB rate. Any pitcher that is able to keep the ball in the yard at that rate this year will give his team a great chance to win.

Taking the mound against the Brewers is Steven Brault of the Pirates. He’s a lefty, which is about as much positive as I can say about him for the moment. He depends on control to have his mediocre offerings to have success, yet has not found that control at the major league level. Brault has been underwhelming with a 4.34 K/9 and 3.86 BB/9 rate in limited action this season. He also has allowed a robust .326 BAA to all batters over his 18.2 innings pitched on the year. I’ll isolate the starting pitching matchup with this pick and take the Brewers on the first 5 inning moneyline as one of my Monday MLB selections.
