For today's total play in MLB baseball we go to Texas, where the Oakland A's take on the Texas Rangers. I will be backing under the total today as I think that we have a good pitching matchup and the line seems a little too high.

MLB Odds
Right now MLB odds makers have set this line at 9 for the total. This is set at most sportsbooks and right now the juice on the line is -115 at most places. But at Heritage Sports you can get this number at regular odds of -110.

Pitchers
Kendall Graveman gets the start for the Oakland Athletics and comes in with a 4.02 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. On the road this year he has been really solid with a 1.78 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. Also in his last three starts, although all losses, he has been stellar allowing four earned runs in his last 22 innings pitched. The Rangers are a good hitting team but he should keep their run total down. For the Rangers Wandy Rodriguez takes the mound with a 3.20 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. He is not been very good at home with an ERA a little bit over 5.00, but like Graveman he has been really solid recently. In his last three starts he is allowed only five earned runs in 19 innings pitched. He is a veteran pitcher with 10 years of major league experience and so I look for his home numbers to get better today against the Athletics.

Batters
Oakland ranks sixth in the league in runs scored per game at 4.43 and the Rangers rank 10th at 4.39. Both these teams have a decent lineup they can put some runs on the board. Still, in some other offensive categories they are a bit pedestrian. Oakland ranks 14th in slugging at .397 and the Rangers rank 17th at .393. In batting average Oakland ranks ninth in Texas 19th, and in hits per game the A's rank seventh and the Rangers 18th. That is kind of the theme for these two teams, both are pretty good but none of their offensive stats really leap off the page. In my favorite category of on base plus slugging percentage Oakland ranks 13th and Texas 18th in the league.

With the recent solid pitching by both these starters I look for them to keep the run total at a minimum for today. Look for the final to stay well below the number.
