Battle of LA
The Dodgers will host the Angels on Monday evening with the first pitch slated for 10:10 PM ET. According to MLB betting odds the Dodgers are a -120 money line home favorite and the posted total is 6.5. These teams have seen 6 of their last 7-meetings at Dodger Stadium stay under the total. The Angels have gone 15-7 in their last 22-games versus the Dodgers.

The Starting Pitchers
The Angels will go with right-hander Garret Richards on the mound for the series opener. Richards is 15-7 against the money this season with a very good 2.74 ERA. He’s been particularly effective on the road going 9-3 against the money with an outstanding 2.14 ERA and 0.93 WHIP. The Angels hurler has allowed just 5 home runs this season in 144 1/3 innings of work. That’s an incredible 1-homer allowed per 28.7 innings pitched.

The Dodgers will counter with right-hander Zack Greinke. The veteran has gone a stellar 7-2 against the money at home this season, with a solid 2.52 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, and a better than 7:1 strikeout to walk ratio. He’s been a perfect 3-0 against the money in his last 3 at Dodgers Stadium, with a superb 1.29 ERA, and a better than 9:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

Tough Road Trip for the Halos
Tonight will be the 7th of a grueling 8-game in 8-day road trip for the Angels that’s seen them go 3-3 thus far. They started the trip by having to face the AL East division leading Baltimore Orioles, and then followed that with a 3-game set versus the red-hot Tampa Bay Rays. What’s a bit concerning from a MLB betting standpoint tonight for the Angels, pertains to their itinerary in the last 24 hours. They had to travel across three time zones (Tampa-to-LA), and will be playing with no rest to boot. Then they will be facing a Dodgers team which is in the tail end of an 8-game home stand. The Angels have gone a dismal 5-14 against the money in 2014 when the total is 7.0 or less. That clearly indicates to me they’ve struggled when facing premier starting pitchers.

Dodgers in a Groove
The Los Angeles Dodgers headed into Sunday’s home game versus the Cubs having won 7 of their previous 8-games. The NL West leaders have been a lot better on the road (34-23) this season than at home (29-25). However, they’ve gone a very profitable 19-5 at home in game 82 or beyond over the last 2-seasons, when facing an opponent with a winning record.

Final Analysis
The Angels have too many things working against them heading into this game tonight. They’re going to need a huge pitching performance from Garrett Richards to overcompensate for some of the disadvantages that were previously detailed. The price on the home favorite in this one is a cheap one with all things considered.
