After a Zack Greinke win the Dodgers are creating separation in the NL West over the Giants. See if we think if the Giants have a chance in this game with our MLB betting pick.
First pitch is set for 10:10 p.m. ET tonight at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. The Dodgers are a heavy -262 betting favorite in the MLB odds market & the total for the game is 6 runs.
The question is "Do the Giants have any chance in this game against Kershaw as they don't want to lose another game for the divisional lead?'
The Dodgers have won their last 2 games, but more importantly are 7-3 in their last 10 games while the San Francisco Giants are just 3-7 in their last 10 games and have lost 4 consecutive games. With Clayton Kershaw taking the mound in a lopsided pitching matchup, prospects don't look good for San Francisco.
This hasn't been a stellar season for Kershaw (11-6 ,2.24) and if he was on a better offensive team, he would have a lot more wins, but he's been killing it as of late.
Aside from pitching to a 1.45 ERA at home with 119 strikeouts in just 86.2/3 innings Kershaw has had a huge 2nd half of the season. In his last 10 starts, which has accounted for 78 innings, Kershaw has allowed a mere 8 runs and one of those game includes a 4 run outburst by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Since that game against Pittsburgh Kershaw has allowed 3 earned runs in 23 innings and has only picked up the win in just 1 game and has had two no decisions. What does a guy have to do to get a win? His offense has done him an injustice and that's what a real chalk bettor would worry about here. You know that Kershaw is most likely to dominate, but you don't know if the Dodgers offense will provide any run support as they face Mike Leake. This is a decision when making the kind of MLB picks that bettors have to make because -262 is a ton of juice to lay to the defending World Champion San Francisco Giants who have a much better offense than that of Los Angeles.
Helping Out Posey
I mentioned before that Buster Posey's .321 batting average to go along with 19 HR and 80 RBI were mighty impressive, but he's not a real game changer as he lacks the power to be in the class of a Mike Trout or Bryce Harper. That doesn't make Posey any less important. This just means that he needs help on the offensive end and one guy that's been providing the help has been Matt Duffy.
For the season, Duffy is hitting .302 with 10 HR and 61 RBI. Duffy has also fared well on the road, hitting .314. He could play a role in this game if the Giants can somehow find the Dodgers bullpen. Of course, the Giants also have the two Brandons (Belt and Crawford) to support the cause as both can reach base and drill the ball out of the park. This is a big game for both teams.
