We won with an RL play on the Blue Jays yesterday when they spanked the Angels by a score of 7-2. With that in mind we go over tonight's game for our capper's free MLB Pick.

LA Angels (Shoemaker) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (Estrada)
After the Blue Jays victory, the Dodgers’ 9-5 win over the Giants was “gravy.” That lifted our combined MLB and NFL-Ex selections on this site to 13-5 with net profit of +$960 due to our predominance of underdog prices. Today, we are right back on the Blue Jays once again with a run line selection at an underdog price.

As mentioned in the analysis yesterday, the Angels have followed my command of August 1st in being MLB’s biggest towel-tosser. Following last night’s defeat, they are on a negative slide of 3-15. In those 18 games, they have allowed the opposition to score 106 runs (just shy of 6 RPG).  In the last 15 games, LAA has plated only 38 runs or approximately 2.6 RPG. With last night’s defeat at Toronto, the Angels’ road record of late is 0-11 with the opposition scoring 6.9 RPG. It simply doesn’t get any colder than that! And with little reason for motivation to perform, we can only expect another blowout in tonight’s contest.

One look at the current American League standings tells you why the Blue Jays remain motivated. They are tied with Boston for the AL East lead with a 2-game advantage over the Baltimore Orioles. They are also chasing Cleveland and Texas for the best record in the League, behind the Tribe by only 1 ½ games.  Following an underperforming 19-23 start, Toronto has played to expectations with a 52-31 record.

Turning to the pitching matchup in tonight’s game, the Angels are sending arguably their best starter to the mound tonight. With a rotation that has been ravaged by injuries, Shoemaker has emerged as the “ace”, but with a lowly record of 7-13 and 4.14 ERA. To show you how poorly the Angels have played, that record has been amassed despite the fact that Shoemaker has a 3.12 ERA in 18 starts with a 114/18 K/BB. The Achilles Heel may be found in his history against Toronto. In 2 appearances vs. the Blue Jays, Shoemaker has an 8.38 ERA. Far prefer Estrada who has been a consistent performer for the Blue Jays for the entire season with a 3.20 ERA.

We lay the runs again tonight for our MLB pick, knowing that 29 of 40 Angels’ road losses have been by 2 or more runs, including 10 of their recent 11 road starts. For Toronto, 30 of 37 home wins are by 2 or more runs, right in line with the fact that 80 of 99 Toronto home wins (the previous 2 years) have been by 2 more runs.  I invite you to put the MLB odds in your favor and join me in my pick on the Toronto Blue Jays tonight.
