The games are becoming more important and there are 11 MLB games on this August 11th. Our goal is to navigate our way through Monday with a couple of wins under our belt with the betting picks that are provided.

After a major run, we’ve hit a cold spell and there’s plenty of time remaining in the MLB season. The idea isn’t to chase; today we’re looking for a winning day and look to start another major run with our MLB picks.

Toronto Blue Jays (63-56) vs. Seattle Mariners (62-55)
The Silencer
How do you stop a losing streak? You back the best pitcher in the American League in the last decade in Felix Hernandez (12-3, 1.97) and look for his supporting cast to bang out a couple of runs for him.

Hernandez is used to playing on poor teams, but this Seattle team actually has some talent with the acquisition of Robinson Cano. Maybe Cano might have made the correct decision to leave the Yankees after all.

Currently, the division is out of the question for the Mariners, but they’re just 1.5 games behind Kansas City for the 2nd Wild Card spot in the American League. Therefore, every game is important for a team that’s used to packing it up at the end of the regular season.

“I’ve Got the Power”
For a while, we didn’t know if Cano would reach the 10 home run plateau due to hitting at a less home run friendly stadium. Cano has increased his production and has had a spectacular season.

On the season, Cano is hitting .330 with 9 HR and 64 RBI. RBI’s are always an underestimated category and without Cano, Seattle would have another losing season. In the month of August, Cano is hitting .357 with 2 HR and 5 RBI. He might have a non-chalant attitude, but at the end of the day, Seattle has a future hall of famer playing at 2nd base and that will help on days that King Felix pitches.

Although Jose Reyes, Melky Cabrera, and Jose Bautista need to be dealt with cautiously, the edge goes to Seattle with Hernandez starting.

Detroit Tigers (63-52) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (62-55)
Big Game For Contending Teams
Justin Verlander (10-10, 4.57) has done a decent job in his last few starts, but I need to see more of the “JV” of old and less of Kate Upton to believe that Verlander is back to being one of the better pitcher in the majors and a pitcher that I can rely on when making my betting picks. For now, Verlander gets a little respect by odds makers as the Tigers are a slight betting favorite on the road and this can be due in part to the fact that Detroit carries some heavy sticks.

What’s Going On?
We’re almost 2 weeks into the month of August and superstar Miguel Cabrera only has 17 home runs. There’s been a power outage throughout Major League Baseball, but these aren’t Cabrera-like numbers.

Miggy is also struggling just to stay above the .300 mark with a .304 batting average. He’s batting .222 in the month of August and looks to be frustrated up at the plate. After suffering multiple injuries last season, Cabrera has seemed to slim down a tad and this could possibly have affected his power numbers. Nonetheless, he still has 84 runs batted in on the season and is still one of the best players in baseball.

Detroit faces a Pittsburgh Pirates team that are competing for a division title, play exceptionally well at home (37-24), and doing this all without superstar Andrew McCutchen. Josh Harrison has been the difference, but for how long Harrison can maintain this level of play is a question in the eyes of many Pirates fans?

Look for Verlander to earn his money in this crucial game.
