The second month of the baseball season is about to begin and as usual, there are a number of teams that are surpassing expectations for various reasons. So why is this happening and will it last?
The D-Backs have been one biggest surprises of the early season and they have done most of their damage at home where they are 11-4 and scoring a wild 6.8 RPG. Besides the crazy offense, not many making MLB picks will even realize is Arizona in tops in the National League in starting pitching ERA. The question about the Snakes is what happens when the offense finally cools and the ratty bullpen is further exposed?
Colorado Rockies (15-9, +7.4 units)
Colorado just got run over by Washington's flaming hot bats, but this Rockies team is definitely improved. It is a given the Rocks will supply the offense, but can it's young starting pitchers who have been thrown fire with Jon Gray hurt and Chad Bettis battling cancer hold up? All the youthful starters appear to have the ability, which bodes well for the future, however, it is unlikely they can carry this club.Chicago White Sox (12-9, +7.1 units)
The White Sox are supposed to be in rebuilding mode, yet have been a very good underdog at 10-7, which accounts for most of their profit. What has not made any sense is how good their starting pitching and bullpen has been with Jose Quintana struggling and Carlos Rodan on the DL. Honestly, this looks like a mirage and I would be very careful when surveying them against the MLB odds for the not too distant future.
