Keep the Profits Alive, As We Look At ML Duo For Tonight's Action

Toronto Blue Jays teammates gathered around

There are a couple of late games in which the team in contention has a very lopsided matchup. Let's take advantage of this opportunity with our MLB Picks of the Day for Saturday.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Los Angeles Angels

Halos Can't Buy a Win
The Los Angeles Angels have to be one of the biggest disappointments in baseball this season. They've lost 9 out of their last 10 games and 5 straight as they reside in the basement of the American League West Division with a mark of 63-84. Unfortunately for the Angels, who can't wait for this season to finish, they must face a Toronto Blue Jays (81-66) club with everything to play for as the Jays are just 2 games behind Boston for the American League East Division top spot and the Jays are also the top team in the wild card spot, 3 games ahead of Detroit and Seattle.

Against a team whose packed in, the Blue Jays must keep winning and when facing Mike Trout and Albert Pujols. anything can happen on any given night.

Non-Existent Offense
The Los Angeles Angels have had a really difficult time scoring runs as of late. In their last 5 games, they've scored a total of 4 runs. This doesn't even average out to a run per game. We take it a bit further and in the Angels last 10 games, they've scored a grand total of 16 runs. This is simply as bad as it get's from an offensive standpoint and Blue Jays starter, Francisco Liriano (7-12, 5.16 ERA) has a great opportunity to cash in on a team which is down on their luck. Liriano's numbers may not be pretty, but he's a much better pitcher throughout his major league career than the numbers indicate and Toronto has a major opportunity for a "W" tonight".

The Backbone of the Blue Jays Lineup
A lot of people may think that I'm referring to Josh Donaldson, but I'm referring to a player that's been playing for Toronto much longer in Edwin Encarnacion. Encarnacion is definitely one of the hardest hitters in all of the baseball. When he gets ahold of a pitch just right, there's no doubt that it's leaving the ballpark. This has happened very often for Encarnacion, who hit a home run along with Troy Tulowitzki in a Blue Jays win last night and "EE" has been doing this all season long and for most of his MLB career.

For the season, Encarnacion has 40 HR and 118 RBI to go along with a very respectable .365 OBP%. Encarnacion has been in a bit of a slump but the power is still there and he's hitting.333 against the Angels this season. Look for this very capable Toronto offense with guys like Tulo, EE, and "Joey Bats" to pour it on against weak Los Angeles pitching en route to another win tonight.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

Dodgers Looking to Maintain Their NL West Lead
This game is a mirror image of the first game that I covered. The Arizona Diamondbacks are a team that a lot was expected from and they've also been one of the biggest disappointments this season as they're basement dwellers. The Diamondbacks are a pathetic 62-85. The D'Backs come into this game facing a team which has poured it on in the 2nd half of the MLB Season to take a 4 game lead in the form of the Los Angeles Dodgers (83-64). L.A. has an average offense but has been successful with timely hitting and good pitching. The Dodgers have to feel good about their chances in this game as they face a pitcher in Shelby Miller (2-11, 6.91) who was once good as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals, but has been an absolute disaster for the Diamondbacks.

We take a deeper look at what Miller has done and in his last 6 starts, he's allowed 5 or more runs on 5 occasions. Miller possesses a whopping 7.37 ERA at home and the opposition is hitting .321 off of Miller. This is a pitcher with a career 3.70 ERA, but we throw that out the window and look at the present and this a great opportunity for the Los Angeles Dodgers to outscore the D'Backs as the Dodgers starting pitching is subpar tonight also.

Justin Turner
We know that Corey Seager is going to win the NL Rookie of the Year Award and we also know that Adrian Gonzalez can hit well. What we didn't expect was the emergence of Justin Turner.

Thus far this season, Turner is hitting a team-leading 27 HR and 83 RBI's to go along with a respectable .271 BA. Turner is hitting .333 in his last 24 at-bats and has 4 HR and 14 RBI's against Arizona this season. He's also 2 for 3 with 1 RBI in a short sampling against Shelby Miller. This is a guy that's a gamer and really comes up with some timely hits. You can bet that if the Dodgers are successful tonight, Turner will be one of their key players as he's been crushing the baseball on the road.

This is another case of a team which has exceeded expectations against a team which hasn't lived up to expectations. Los Angeles is the easy MLB pick in this game.
