AL Central rivals Cleveland and Kansas City close out a three-game set in this early afternoon matchup but not before we analyze this game and deliver a winner in our MLB picks on Sunday.

Starting Pitchers Tell the Tale

Only two years removed from their stunning World Series title, the Kansas City Royals have fallen precipitously and are currently mired in the AL Central basement. However, that fall from grace has little to do with our selection on Sunday as the Royals send their ace Danny Duffy (4-3, 2.92 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) to the hill to help gain some traction out of the cellar. In his last start, Duffy dazzled in a 6-2 victory over the Yankees. The 28-year-old southpaw tossed seven full innings and surrendered just two runs on six hits in the win. Over the course of his last four starts, the 6'3" lefty has a 1.63 ERA to complemented by a 1.12 WHIP and is averaging over eight strikeouts over nine innings. The Royals have won Duffy's last three starts and he are gunning to make it four on Sunday.

Conversely, the Indians will give the ball to veteran Josh Tomlin (2-6, 6.70 ERA, 1.43 WHIP) who has gotten wrecked in his last two outings. The 32-year-old right-hander has suffered losses in his last three starts and has allowed 12 runs in just over 16 innings of work in those games. After getting torched for six runs in a little over two innings of work in a 7-4 loss to Tampa Bay, he then allowed five runs on nine hits in six innings of work in a 5-1 defeat to the Reds.

And the Winner Is...

After shopping for the best MLB odds available we are backing the road team in this one. The Royals may have a struggling offense, ranked dead last in the majors, but they have averaged 6.4 runs per game over their last five winning efforts. This offense wakes up when it sees an easy target and that Josh Tomlin just happens to fit that bill nicely on Sunday. In addition, the Indians offense is not much better, ranked 21st this season, which will allow Duffy to work his magic and shut down the Tribe's lineup. Back the Kansas City Royals in your MLB picks on Sunday.
