No matter how good or how bad the Royals have been over the last couple of decades, the Bronx Bombers have always feasted on Kansas City. New York will welcome the Royals for a 4-game series which begins on Monday night.

Odds Overview

Kansas City Royals at New York Yankees (YES, FS-Kansas City, DTV 631, 672, 7:05 pm ET): The Yankees (3-7 L10) have been struggling a bit, but get to head Home on Monday to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx where they will host the Royals in Game 1 of a 4-game series. Sportsbooks have RHP Michael Pineda and New York healthy -164 favorites (Sportsbetting.ag) with the Total at 8½u -125 (Sportsbetting.ag) with the Yankees -1½ +110 in the Run Line market with LHP Jason Vargas and the Royals +1½ -130 (Sportsbetting.ag). The Yankees will pitch Jordan Montgomery in Tuesday’s Game 2 against the Royals Jason Vargas (7:05 pm ET) with Luis Severino facing Danny Duffy in Game 3 on Wednesday (7:05 pm ET) and Masahiro Tanaka facing Nate Karns in Game 4 on Thursday (1:05 pm ET).

Kansas City Royals

Manager Ned Yost and the Royals (125/1 to win World Series, BetDSI) won the World Series just two seasons back (2015), but that suddenly seems like a decade after the Cubs exorcised their 108-year-old demons last year and Kansas City at 17-24 and in the AL West cellar headed into play Sunday—despite a 6-4 mark their L10. On Sunday at KC in Game 1 of a DH against the Twins, the Royals (5-13 Road, worst in MLB) had a starting lineup of: SS Escobar, 3B Moustakas, CF Cain, 1B Hosmer, C Pérez, RF Bonifacio, DH Moss, 2B Merrifield, LF Gordon with Jake Junis starting after a call- up from AAA for Kansas City (135 RF-178 RA, -43 RD).

Lorenzo Cain and the Royals (40/1 to win AL, Bovada) are 5-2 L7 vs. AL East but 3-10 L13 on the Road and 7-16 L23 on Grass and have scored the least Runs in MLB (135). The Under is 16-4-1 L21 Royals games vs. Teams with Winning Records and 33-15-4 L52 Road games vs. Teams with Winning Records.

New York Yankees

The Yankees (14/1 to win World Series, GTBets) have cooled a bit (4-6 L10 into Sunday) but will enjoy returning Home (13-6) to face a team with the worst Road Record and least Runs scored in The Bigs. Trying to snap a 3-game losing streak in Game 3 at Tampa on Sunday, New York Manager Joe Girardi had a starting lineup of: LF Gardner, C Sánchez, 1B Holliday, 2B Castro, RF Judge, DH Ellsbury, 3B Headley, SS Gregorius, 1B Carter with veteran southpaw CC Sabathia getting the start.

New York (+650 to win AL, Bovada) is 9-2 L11 and 24-11 L25 at Home and 24-20 L62 vs. Road Teams with Winning percentages under .400. The Over is 6-0 L6 Yankees Monday games, 9-2 L11 at Yankee Stadium and 5-2 L7 overall.

The Bronx Weather, Series Trends

TWC forecast for Bronx Monday night currently calls for Foggy conditions with Showers tapering off in the evening (60% chance Rain), a Low near 60° with 5-10 NE Winds, so nastiness in NYC so best bring an umbrella, brella. In a rematch from last week’s series, Royals starter Vargas (5.02, 2.03 ERA) faces the Yankees Pineda (4-2, 2.42 ERA). Pineda allowed 3 ER and 6 Hits in 6 IP in an 11-7 win as Salvador Pérez and Whit Merrifield homered off the northpaw. The 6 Runs Vargas gave up to NY in that game was the most he’s allowed all season.

With an easy Over that game and the Over Trend here—4-0 L4 in The House That Ruth Built and 8-2 L10 in series overall—the Over is a pick as are the host Yankees who have gone a dominating 75-35 L110 in this series and 40-15 L55 at Home. After a sobering 6-game Road trip. New York will really be glad to be home Monday, rain or not.
