It’s been 151 starts and nearly five years since Clayton Kershaw was an underdog on the MLB odds, and the chalk streak continues when the Dodgers open a series in Cleveland on Tuesday.

MLB Season Record: 29-39 (-10.43)

For the first time this season, the Los Angeles Dodgers venture outside of the Senior Circuit when they begin a 6-game swing through Ohio with a stop in Cleveland to meet the Indians. Tuesday’s 7:10 PM (ET) tilt finds the Dodgers’ ace, Clayton Kershaw, on the hill against Trevor Bauer, and as you’d expect, LA is favored on a -165 price at BetOnline.

Los Angeles starts this trip, which stops next in Cincinnati, on a 4-game winning streak and just a game behind the Rockies in the NL West. The Dodgers were a level 10-10 in interleague play each of the past two seasons. Cleveland also sits just a game behind the Twins for the AL Central lead.  The Indians are a woeful 1-7 against NL clubs so far in 2017, getting swept by the Diamondbacks and Rockies and dropping 2 of 3 to the Reds to leave bettors following them on the MLB odds off 8.4 units.

Bauer Still Seeking Consistency & Command

Kershaw didn’t face the Tribe when these two got together in 2014, but he has outstanding numbers against AL clubs over the last three seasons. He made 11 interleague starts since the beginning of the 2014 campaign, the Dodgers winning eight times while Kershaw pitched to a 1.59 ERA in those 79 frames. Los Angeles has posted dubyas in his last seven trips to the mound, a rough outing against the Cubs the only one he didn’t register a quality start.

Bauer closed May in pretty good form, the Indians winning three of his final four assignments that month while he posted a respectable 4.12 ERA. His first start of June was derailed by rain in Kansas City, and he was out of control last week in Colorado where he walked five and allowed four runs before being lifted in the fourth. The former UCLA star only faced the Dodgers once since joining the Tribe, and he needed an eight-inning rally by his offense to take him off the hook for a loss after he was charged with three runs in 5.2 frames.

Series Info, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

One of the rarest of interleague matchups, the Dodgers and Indians have played only nine previous times in the regular season, just two more games than they battled out in the 1920 World Series. It’s just the second series to be held in Cleveland, LA sweeping three games here exactly 14 years ago. All three of those went ‘under’ the totals.

A few clouds  and a bit muggy, but otherwise the weather’s fine with temps in the upper 70s to start with and a light northerly breeze (in from left). This 8-run mark is the highest total for a Kershaw start not taking place at Coors Field, and I’m liking the low side for my free baseball pick.
