After another All-Star winning pick and tons of momentum, we’re looking towards a successful 2nd half of the season in the MLB as it’s time to get down to business with a good looking Saturday MLB slate of games that are ripe for the picking.

We were successful with our All-Star Game, picking the American League and what makes it that much sweeter is that I noted that Derek Jeter would have a great All-Star showing because he’s “Captain Clutch” and he did. Let’s get to the picks; let’s tear this MLB slate of games apart and into a couple of winners.

New York Mets (46-50) vs. San Diego Padres (41-55)
I Don’t Care About Tyson Ross!
If you notice his record of 7-10, it doesn’t matter how well that San Diego starter Tyson Ross pitches; his team still has to support him with some runs. Granted, Ross has pitched well this season with a sub 3.00 ERA, but the Padres are the worst offensive team in the majors by a mile.

I watched yesterday’s game and the Pads had a big explosion for them; a 4 run inning against the Mets to send Bartolo Colon to an early shower, but the Padres couldn’t seal the deal as they lost 5-4 to New York.

On the television broadcast, Keith Hernandez noted that the Padres leader in runs batted in , Chase Headley, had under 30 RBI’s at the All-Star Break and that’s the lowest for any team since the 1983 Seattle Mariners. The Pads, at the start of last night’s game were hitting .214 as a team and that is simply disgusting and will win them a trip to the basement.

Lucas Duda
Now that the Mets made their decision and sent Ike Davis to the Pirates and kept Duda as their everyday 1st baseman, Duda has thrived. After another successful game in which Duda drew a walk, hit a double and an RBI, and scored 2 runs, the big man is now now batting .257 with 14 HR and 49 RBI on the season. Lucas is seeing the ball very well and along with leadoff man Curtis Granderson, are becoming a nice 1-2 punch where power is concerned.

Although it’s tough to go against Tyson Ross, the value is with the underdog Mets as San Diego’s offense is an instant fade.

Seattle Mariners (51-45) vs. Los Angeles Angels (58-37)
Hernandez vs. Richards
You have the hottest team in the majors in the Los Angeles Angels, who have won  6 games in a row and 9 out of their last 10 and tonight, they face a major obstacle in “King” Felix Hernandez (11-2, 2.12). That said, the Mariners will face a furious Garrett Richards (11-2, 2.55) who was snubbed from the All-Star Game. The betting odds on this game are practically even and they’re accurate as it’s difficult to pick a winner in what is expected to be a tough pitcher’s duel.

Even though the Angels lead the majors in runs, are 3rd in batting average and on-percentage and possess the greatest young talent in the game in Mike Trout, a good pitcher like Hernandez can stop any offense in its tracks. Last night’s game was very low-scoring as the Angels held on and I’m siding with the total and expecting another low scoring game. Garrett Richards will come out strong against a “so-so” Seattle offense and attempt to prove why he should’ve been selected to the All-Star Game.

MLB Pick: Los Angeles/Seattle Under 6.5 -110 at 5 Dimes

Los Angeles Dodgers (54-44) vs. St. Louis Cardinals (53-44)
The Great Greinke
I’ll throw a quick 3rd opinion your way in an afternoon matchup as the Cards are closing in on the Milwaukee Brewers for the division lead in the National League Central Division. Standing in their way is Dodgers starter Zack Greinke (11-5, 2.73) and a solid Dodgers offensive lineup. Despite a dropoff in Greinke’s last few outings, this is a lopsided pitching matchup in which Zack Greinke will come out strong and come up with the “W” for L.A. Take the Dodgers as your betting pick.

MLB Pick: Dodgers -140 at 5 Dimes
