St. Louis came through against the run line Friday night in Philly; why wouldn't the best team in baseball be able to pull the same trick Saturday?
Cardinals-Phillies Saturday Betting Odds
In the early betting action the best line we could find on St. Louis and John Lackey was the -161 offered at GTBets, while Philly and Aaron Harang were getting +165 at Bovada. But that split wasn't going to last long.
St. Louis took the opener of this series Friday night 12-4, and to our delight covered against the run line. The Cardinals have now taken four of five games from Philly this season.
So St. Louis (44-23) maintains the best record in baseball, while the Phillies (23-46) still own the worst.
Harang (4-8, 3.24) was going along pretty good, but has been touched for 16 earned runs over his last three starts, covering 17 2/3 innings. Last time out he gave up four runs in six innings against Baltimore. On the season Philly is 5-9 in Harang's starts, with the UNDERS going 8-4.
Since the beginning of last season Harang has started three times against St. Louis, allowing nine ER through 18 innings; his teams lost all three of those games.
Two starts ago Lackey (5-4, 3.59) got lashed for eight ER in four innings against Colorado, but he bounced back last time out to hold Minnesota to two runs through eight innings. For the season St. Louis is 7-6 in Lackey's starts, with the UNDERS going 9-4.
Lackey has started once this season against Philadelphia, allowing three runs through seven innings of a 4-1 Cardinals loss back in April.
