The Reds have been surprisingly one of the better offensive teams this season. Today they are taking on a Cleveland team that is starting to swing the bats better over the past couple of weeks and we’re going look at the total for this contest.

Cleveland Indians

Josh Tomlin takes the mound for Cleveland and comes in with a 6.86 ERA and 1.43 whip having gotten off to a very rough beginning of the year. After having a good outing versus Minnesota allowing just one earned runs over eight innings he came back in his next game reverting back to how he started the season allowing six earned runs off a seven hits in just two innings. He is really struggled this year and for the most part is simply not a guy that can come in and be lights out for an extended period of time. At the plate Cleveland is really starting to pick things up after a slow start to the season although they are hitting just .241 as a team ranking them 20th in major league baseball. Despite the low batting average over the past several games they have averaged over four runs per contest and I expect for them to continue swinging the bats well today. What makes them so consistent is their plate discipline as they rank in the top 10 in both walks per game and least amount of strikeouts per game.

 Cincinnati Reds

Scott Feldman gets the start for in Cincinnati coming in with a 4.29 ERA and 1.31 whip, and like Tomlin, is coming off a rough start allowing five earned runs in just two innings in Chicago. Feldman has been a respectable major leaguer but he does carry a career 4.39 ERA and 1.35 whip and I simply don’t believe he will come in and get a quality start versus a Cleveland team that is swinging the bats well. Offensively themselves Cincinnati has been consistently one of the best scoring teams in baseball ranking in the top five in hits per game, runs per game, and batting average hitting .265 as a team. They also hold a respectable .781 OPS and rank fifth in the major leagues in total bases. They should be able to put together enough quality at-bats and put together several runs to help get is over this total.

 MLB Odds

Oddsmakers have set this total at nine and for my MLB pick I’m going to back over the total. Cincinnati has been a nice offensive machine so far this season and Cleveland is starting to swing the bats like they are capable of. With the number being so high and this being at a National League park it should really get your radar up. Look for the offenses to continue swinging the bats well and for this game to be high-scoring.
