One of the best matchups takes place today in Texas as the Rangers host the Cleveland Indians.  Today we are going to look at the total in the MLB odds for this game with these two good hitting teams.

Cleveland Indians
Josh Tomlin takes the mound for Cleveland with a 4.39 ERA and 1.21 whip but has lost his last four starts on the mound. Tomlin has really struggled recently allowing an unreal 23 earned runs in just about 20 innings of work over his last four outings. It hasn't been a home and away disparity problem as two of those games were on the road while the last two were at home. In his defense, he did face some tough hitting teams in that stretch particularly the last two games having to face Boston and Toronto, and surprisingly he pitched his best game out of his last four against the Red Sox. Still, I think he'll struggle some today against a good hitting Texas team not only because of his recent slump but the fact that in his  only chance to face the Rangers this season he allowed four earned runs off of nine hits in just three innings.

At the plate, Cleveland remains one of the best hitting teams in all of baseball although their numbers drop quite a bit on the road. They haven't had the chance to face Hamels this season but their batting average does jump from .265 up to .275 when they face southpaws.

Texas Rangers
Cole Hamels takes the mound for Texas with a 2.80 ERA and 1.28 whip but a surprising 4.05 ERA at home. Interestingly Hamels has gotten knocked around more at home this season than on the road as batters are hitting .284 against him in Arlington. Recently he has been solid allowing just 10 earned runs in his last five starts, but in his last home outing versus Detroit, he was more lucky than good. In that game, he allowed the Tigers 14 hits in just seven innings but was able to leave a lot of guys on base. Although he remains as one of the best pictures in the American League I think he could struggle to keep Cleveland to a reasonable number.

Offensively Texas ranks ninth in batting average, 11th in runs per game, and 12th in OPS in the major leagues. Recently they have been putting up runs in bunches and have put up five runs or more in their last six straight games. Considering Tomlin's recent struggles I expect for Texas and a revamped batting lineup to do some solid damage today.

MLB odds have set the total at 9 across the board with a bit of higher juice on the over. For my MLB pick, I'm going to go ahead and pay the extra juice and back over the total of 9 like at Pinnacle sports -121*. I have a hard time believing either of these pitchers will be able to hold down the offenses today.
