The Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays begin a 4-game weekend set at the Rogers Centre on Thursday night. First pitch is set to start at 7:05 ET

Cleveland Indians vs Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto has played better following a mediocre start. Cleveland, however, is the team we have been riding, as they have caught fire in the 2nd half of June. Though the Blue Jays may have the YTD batting edge, Cleveland has certainly evened that out in the course of the last 2 weeks. More importantly, they have a dominant edge in pitching across the board.

Much was expected of a Toronto team who was in contention most of last year. This season, after going 93-69, the Blue Jays were projected to win 87 games. A 19-23 start left much to be desired. But, the Blue Jay bats have responded in leading Toronto to a recent 24-14 mark, lifting them 43-37. Yet that is still 5 ½ games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the AL East lead. Tonight, they send veteran knuckleballer, Dickey, to the mound, who has admittedly pitched better in the month of June with a record of 3-2 and 3.34 ERA. But his YTD work shows a .787 OPS, including .838 from this mound. Dickey has historically pitched well against Cleveland with a 3.14 ERA in 13 appearances. Never, however, has Cleveland been in this type of current form when Dickey has faced the Tribe.

Cleveland enters on a 12-game winning streak in which they have outscored the opposition 76-25. That is an average of 6.3-2.1 per game. During that time, the Cleveland starters have gone 9-0 with a 1.91 ERA. Tonight’s starter, Carrasco, has made 3 consecutive quality starts with a 21/6 K/BB. He comes off a complete game shutout of Detroit in which he allowed just 4 hits. The 2.73 ERA and .701 OPS are impressive, but not nearly as much as the .567 road OPS.

Those of you who are looking for a bigger score could consider the fact that 20 of 24 Cleveland road wins have been by 2 or more runs, making the run line proposition a tempting option. In fact, the last 9 Cleveland wins have been by 2 or more runs. We, however, will settle for a more conservative option of simply suggesting Cleveland to continue their 12-0 winning streak. I invite you to put the MLB ODDS in your favor and join me in my MLB PICK on the Cleveland Indians tonight.
