After winning yet another NL West title, several Dodgers regulars might get the night off against the Giants, and that has delayed the release of MLB odds for the matchup.

For a while this summer, it looked like the Los Angeles Dodgers were going to have their fifth consecutive NL West title wrapped up by Labor Day, and for all intents and purposes, that was the case. But the official clinching was delayed during a recent slide that saw LA drop 16 games during one 17-game stretch. The wait finally ended last night in front of the home fans, and it couldn’t have come against a better foe than their rivals from San Francisco as the Dodgers posted a 4-2 decision over the in a contest 5Dimes closed them on a -220 money line.

Now bettors had to wait on the official MLB odds release for Saturday’s tussle between the Giants and Dodgers, first pitch coming at 9:10 PM (ET) and to be delivered by Hyun-Jin Ryu (5-7, 3.46). He’ll be opposed by fellow southpaw Madison Bumgarner (3-9, 3.48).

LA 6-4 In Ryu’s 10 Career Starts vs. SF

Saturday’s pitching clash is a rematch of a Sunday Night Baseball game near the end of July, both Bumgarner and Ryu tossing seven shutout innings in that contest. San Francisco made that happen with a late pitching change that bumped Bumgarner up a day, and the favored Dodgers eventually prevailed at home in 11 innings, 3-2.

That is Bumgarner’s only encounter with the Dodgers in 2017 and left the 28 years old winless with a 3.37 ERA in his last four assignments at Chavez Ravine. Considering how things have been going for the Dodgers overall, it’s no surprise they have lost Ryu’s last three outings despite the Korean pitching well in two of them. Hunter Pence has been his biggest nemesis in the Giants lineup, the outfielder hitting .429 against Ryu but yet to take him deep.

Umpire Notes, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick

Crew chief Mike Everitt works the dish in this one and brings a level 15-15 O/U record into the contest after four of his last five plate assignments failed to reach the totals. It’s the first time Everitt has donned the mask in Los Angeles this season, the Dodgers winning his last two assignments here with the totals splitting.

Clear skies and the thermometer dipping into the 60s as the game progresses is the weather forecast. Forecasting just how LA manager Dave Roberts fills out his lineup card is the real mystery. He will undoubtedly rest some of his regulars, and likely won’t call on closer Kenley Jansen who has worked the last two games. The Dodgers are still slight favorites, and I’m inclined to like Bumgarner as an underdog for my free baseball pick.
