The Yankees were the talk of the league until the Astros blew into The Big Apple bursting the Bronx Bombers midnight navy blue bubble. In Game 2 of Sunday’s DH, runs could be scarce with both teams making the Under and the underdog seem prudent for equal amounts.

Houston Astros vs N.Y. Yankees

Masahiro Tanaka and the Yankees (21-12) face RHP Charlie Morton and the team with the best record in MLB, the Astros (25-11) at historic Yankee Stadium on Sunday night for Game 2  of a 4 game AL series. Sportsbooks have the Yankees -116 favorites with the total at 8 and New York at -1½ in the run line market. Houston won Game 1 on Thursday, 3-2 and Game 2 on Friday, 5-1 with Saturday’s game Rained Out, creating Sunday’s Day-Night Doubleheader in The Bronx with the team honoring Derek Jeter and retiring his No. 2.

Houston Astros

Manager AJ Hinch and the Astros stopped playing in the NL in 2012 and all of a sudden that’s looking like a good thing for teams like the world champion Cubs (+500, Bovada) and the Dodgers, but also a bad thing for the perceived elite in the AL like the defending Junior Circuit-winning Indians, the Red Sox and maybe especially these upstart Yankees. Against NY Friday in G2, Houston (11-5 Road) put out a starting lineup of: CF Springer, RF Beltrán, 2B Altuve, SS Correa, DH Gattis, 1B González, C McCann, 3B Bergman and LF Marisnick with Lance McCullers, Jr. starting and allowing 0 ER and just 4 Hits in 6 IP to improve to 3-1 in a game in which McCann was the star at the plate with 2 Hits and 3 RBI.

The Astros are 4-0 L4 Sundays, 9-2 L11 vs. AL East, 60-29 L89 vs. Pitcher with a WHIP 1.30+ and 6-13 L19 Game 4’s. The Over is 7-0 L7 Game 2’s of Doubleheaders involving Houston (-1500 to win AL West, Bovada) while the Over is 10-3 L13 vs. AL East, 12-2-2 L16 Sundays and 4-0 L4 Morton Starts.

New York Yankees

Rookie Aaron Judge and the Yankees were the most pleasant surprise in the AL this Regular Season until the Astros came into The Big Apple and took big bites in Games 1 and 2, limiting the usually high-powered Bronx Bombers Offense to just 3 Runs in two games. In G2 on Friday, New York manager Joe Girardi had a starting lineup of LF Gardner, C Sánchez, 1B Holliday, 2B Castro, DH Ellsbury, RF Judge, SS Gregorius, 3B Headley and CF Hicks with Jordan Montgomery starting and suffering the loss.

New York is 10-3 L13 Home vs. RHP starter, 20-8 L28 Overall as well as on Grass and 42-20 L64 Game 4’s but 0-4 L4 Game 2’s of a Doubleheader. The Under is 14-3 L17 Tanaka Starts vs. AL West while the Over is 9-4 L13 Grass and 5-1 L6 Sundays.

Bronx Weather, Umpire, Series Trends

TWC forecast for the borough Bronx early Sunday night calls for partly cloudy skies, 10-20 mph winds with a Low of 51°, so crappy conditions. Expect both teams to be tired with a game rained out and a long 4-game series forced to conclude with this Mother’s Day Doubleheader. The Astros (4-1 L5 Morton Starts) Morton has allowed 3 ER or less in 5 of his 7 Starts while the Yankees Tanaka has allowed just 14 ER in 40.2 IP (3.10 ERA) since getting rocked in his first Start.

With the sloppy weather, the Under 4-1 L5 in the series and winning the first two here, and with the Under 4-0 L4 games (5-1 L6 Sunday in NYC) umpired by Eric Cooper (Under 24-9-1 L34) backing the 'Under' seems like a wise MLB pick as does backing Altuve (10/1 to win AL MVP, Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook) and the underdog Astros—even with the Home team 7-0 L7 Cooper-umpired games—with NY 0-4 L4 DH Game 2’s and having trouble scoring against the team with MLB’s best Record and Houston 6-2 L8 in the Boogie Down Bronx.
