Sports handicapper Ian Cameron provides an MLB Early Lines Report for the baseball card taking place on Thursday, August 18.

Seattle Mariners vs L.A. Angels
This is a classic late season MLB ‘ride the hot, fade the cold’ scenario as the Mariners face the Angels. Seattle is 11-3 in their last 14 games and the LA Angels are 1-11 in their last 12 games. Hisashi Iwakuma has been magnificent for Seattle in his last three starts allowing just 3 runs in his last 19.1 innings of work with a single walk to 17 strikeouts during that span and Seattle is a very strong 8-1 in his last 9 starts.

Matt Shoemaker has been on a solid run for the LA Angels in the last couple months after a rough beginning to the season but the fact remains he hasn’t been able to deliver wins for the struggling Angels who have lost four of his last five starts and Shoemaker enters this game on a winless 0-4 slide in his last 4 trips to the mound against the Mariners. Shoemaker was roughed up in his last outing against Cleveland yielding 5 runs on 12 hits in 6 innings of work and I expect him to have a tough time matching Iwakuma in this game. This is a very cheap price at near even money to back the superior Seattle Mariners team for your MLB pick. After all, they have a pitcher that is in terrific current form right now.
