Our MLB consultant previews the game today between the Diamondbacks and Dodgers. Join us in reading his insightful thoughts on this NL West clash, and his article concludes with a pick on the total.

NL West Encounter on Saturday Night at Dodger Stadium
A couple of NL West rivals will square off tonight when the Dodgers host the Diamondbacks at 9:10 PM ET. According to the MLB betting oddsat GTBets, the Dodgers are a -151 money line favorite, and the posted total is 8.0. These teams have split their four meetings versus one another in 2015.

Starting Pitchers
Arizona will go with right-hander Jeremy Hellickson on the mound tonight. The former Tampa Bay Rays hurler is off to an inauspicious start with his new club. He’s gone 1-3 in four team starts this season, posting a lofty 5.24 ERA, and a poor 1.75 WHIP. Hellickson will be pitching on five days of rest. He’s gone a dismal 0-8 in his team starts since the beginning of last season when pitching on five or six days rest. His team has been outscored in those eight outings by an average of 3.8 runs per game.

Scott Baker will be making his second start of the season. The 33 year old veteran right-hander signed a minor league contract signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers in early April. He was extremely impressive in three starts for AAA Oklahoma City, posting an excellent 1.06 ERA, a miniscule 0.65 WHIP, and struck out 16 while walking just 1. In his Dodger debut he suffered a 3-1 loss versus the Padres. He went 7.0 innings in the defeat and was victimized by two San Diego home runs.

Final Analysis
The Dodgers are averaging 5.9 runs per game, and have gone 9-3 over the total at home this season. They’re coming off a 8-0 win over Arizona last night, and are 14-3 over the total the last two seasons following a win by six runs or more, including 9-1 over if facing a NL West division opponent. The Dodgers have hit a whopping 35 homers in their first twenty-two games this season. These clubs have gone 13-5 over the total in their games played at Dodger Stadium since the start of the 2013 season. I’m leaning toward this one being a high scoring affair for one of my MLB picks on Saturday.

MLB Pick: Dodgers and Diamondbacks to go over the total of 8.0 at GTBets.
