We’re going to examine the game on Saturday night between Arizona and San Diego. Read our insightful betting preview article on this NL West affair which culminates with a pick on the total.

Padres and D-Backs at Petco Park on Saturday Night
The Padres will host the Diamondbacks on Saturday at 10:10 PM ET. This will be the second of a three game series, and San Diego won the opener last night 4-2. San Diego is 6-5 versus Arizona this season, and that includes 3-1 at home. These NL West rivals have seen six of their eleven meetings go over the total in 2015.

Starting Pitcher
Jeremy Hellickson will be on the mound for Arizona tonight. Hellickson has struggled in night games this season going 2-6 in his team starts with a lofty 5.69 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, and he allowed 9 home runs in only 42 1/3 innings pitched. The Diamondbacks right-handed hurler has faced the Padres three times this season and was ineffective, posting a hefty 6.23 ERA in those outings. Hellickson has also been less than impressive in his last three starts overall, compiling a 5.17 ERA during that time.

The Padres Andrew Cashner gets the starting assignment on Saturday. Cashner has been a huge disappointment so far in 2015, considering San Diego had high expectations for him entering this season. He’s been horrible over his previous five starts with a large 8.31 ERA, 1.88 WHIP, and all of those games went over the total. On a positive note, Cashner has made three starts versus Arizona this year, posted a stellar 2.65 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and had just short of a 7:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Although it must be noted, the Padres lost all three of those games.

Final Analysis
The Padres have gone 46-29 (61.3%) over the total this season, and that includes 22-13 (62.9%) at home. With both of these starting pitchers having less than stellar resumes heading into tonight, I look for this game to be a high scoring affair, and exceed the low posted total as one of my MLB picks for Saturday. At the time of this writing, Heritage was the only credible portsbook that had this total at 6.5, and all the others I checked were at 7.0.

MLB Pick: Diamondbacks and Padres over 6.5 (-115) at Heritage.
