We take a look at Tuesday's MLB odds as we approach the middle part of September and although the quality of starting pitching matchups are merely average, the value is definitely there.

Chicago Cubs vs St. Louis Cardinals

Riding the Cubbies On a Consistent Basis
This is what we've been doing recently and it has been paying off in a major way as we see the best team in baseball with great value and are quite shocked. Again tonight, the Cubs (92-51) are fantastic betting value. Although we know that the St. Louis Cardinals are playing for a wild-card spot and the Chicago Cubs are pretty much locked in at the top, the Cubs keep running out top-level pitching and are simply the better baseball team. Balance is the key to their game with 3 big-time starting pitchers, including tonight's pitcher in Jason Hammel (14-8, 3.50 ERA) and an offense that can light up the scoreboard are what makes the Cubbies the odds on favorites to win the World Series.

Jason Hammel
No pitcher is going to pitch near perfect all of the time and Hammel has had two really rotten outings after pitching 3 consecutive games of shutout ball in mid-August.

In his last game, Hammel got rocked, allowing 8 runs on 13 hits in 5 2/3 innings in a 12-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Due to those two really poor starts, Hammel has seen his ERA plummet from 2.90 to 3.50 ERA. People might be concerned and think that the Cubs have nothing to play for and that's not the case. They need their pitchers to enter the post-season on a high point and this is one of those games for Jason Hammel. Also, the poorer that the pitcher has been pitching as of late, the more favorable the odds for Chicago and Hammel has still had an outstanding season overall. Look for Jason Hammel to bounce back quite nicely. He's been very consistent up until his last few starts and I don't expect him to simply collapse.

Road Warriors
Chicago is coming off of a 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, but lately, their offense has been stifled. That said, this is a team whose key players hit better on the road than at Wrigley Field.

Dexter Fowler has a .295 batting average on the road while possessing an overall average  of .270. Kris Bryant has 21 HR, 57 RBI, and a .317 BA on the road. Ben Zobrist has 10 HR and a .302 BA on the road. Anthony Rizzo has 17 HR and 56 RBI away from Wrigley. While this might be just a coincidence, these are staggering numbers and it work's in the Chicago Cubs favor when playing in games such as this. Jason Hammel should receive and adequate amount of run support and it's up to him to pitch the way that he's been pitching for a majority of the season, despite the last month.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs New York Yankees

All About the Odds
The New York Yankees (76-67) came back to earth yesterday night as they lost convincingly to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-2. It was a game that even Yasiel Puig homered in and the feedback was amazing as there were 1000 Los Angeles Dodgers supporters that traveled to the game. The Yankees had been on a major tear, on a 7 game winning streak and a season-high 11 games over .500. They were beating teams above them in the standings as they look to reach the post-season. Their last two games have been a different story as they've lost both and have been outscored 12-4. While this is certainly not a 'must win' situation for New York as they're just 2 games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the final wild-card spot, this is a very important game and the Yankees are actually a home underdog with C.C. Sabathia (8-12, 4.27 ERA) taking the mound.

Every Game Is A Playoff Game
That's the one thing that eases my concern with Sabathia pitching as I know that the Yankees manager, Joe Girardi, plays every game as if it was a playoff game and he's quick to give the hook.

Just ask Michael Pineda, who had a 7-2 lead in his last outing in which there were two runners on base in the 5th inning with 2 outs. Girardi took Pineda out of the game because he knew that Pineda was prone to giving up the long ball and this prevented Pineda from picking up the win. Joe Girardi doesn't let personal statistics enter the equation. He's all about the win and that's the same approach that he'll take with Sabathia, who had pitched just 4 innings in his last outing despite a Yankees 5-4 win over Tampa Bay.

Overall, C.C. has pitched pretty well as of late, allowing 8 runs in his last 23 2/3 innings pitched (4 starts). I look for C.C. Sabathia to keep the Yankees in the game and that's all that they can ask for from the veteran.

Kyle Seager
One player that's had an outstanding sophomore season and a player to keep an eye on in this game is Kyle Seager. Seager has been a major reason why the Dodgers are in 1st place in their respective division. Seager is 10 for his last 25 at-bats with 1 HR and 4 RBI and is hitting .319 with 25 HR and 69 RBI's for the season. Yankee Stadium has a short right field porch that is made for left-handed hitters such as Kyle Seager. If C.C. Sabathia is not on top of his game, Seager will take advantage of the situation. I'm going to give the Yankees the benefit of the doubt as I love the value in this game despite L.A. having a solid offense.
