Great Pitching Matchup with Kluber vs. Sale Makes 'Under' a Solid MLB Pick for Indians vs. White Sox

With two big name pitchers on the mound I am backing the under the total when the Cleveland Indians visit the Chicago White Sox.

Kluber vs. Sale
MLB betting odds makers have come out with this line at 7.5 for the total.  With two big names like Corey Kluber and Chris Sale it seems like we would be in for a big pitcher’s duel, usually I like to go the other way on lines like this, there is a lot to suggest though this will be a low scoring affair.  Kluber comes in with a 4.27 ERA and 1.20 WHIP, not good.  In fact he has been not good all year for the most part.  There are a couple theories about why he has not been sharp from his lack of control of the fastball to his lack of not having his starting catcher Gomes behind the plate. I think it is simply early in the season and he went through a normal struggle phase that all professional pitchers go through.  With his big bounce back game against the Cardinals and a career ERA of 3.44 it looks like he is back so I will back him to have another good outing.  Sale comes in with a 5.09 ERA and a WHIP of 1.36.  Those big numbers are due to two bad outings he has had this year against the Twins and Tigers, it happens.  He is also coming off a very strong outing with the most strikeouts he has had this season at 11 and let’s not forget his career ERA of 2.88 and WHIP of 1.08, he can be lights out.

Not Bad but Not Great at the Plate
Both teams are coming in pretty hot at the plate. In the last three games Cleveland is ranked 7th in hits, 6th in runs, and 6th in on base %.  But that was against the Texas Rangers ranked 23rd in the league in team ERA. The White Sox have had the same upswing in that time frame with more hits, runs, and a higher on base % then their season averages.  But that damage was against the A’s non front line pitchers and their relievers.  On the season Cleveland is in the upper half of league in most offensive categories from around 8th to 15th while the Sox rank in the bottom half of the league in most.

Both pitchers should continue off of their previous starts to have a really solid outing today so I am backing the under for my MLB picks in what should be a good pitching matchup.
