Sports handicapper Ian Cameron provides a look at MLB Overnight Betting Lines for the games taking place on Thursday, June 9.

Washington Nationals vs. Chicago White Sox
We cashed an Over ticket in Gio Gonzalez last start and I’ll look in the same direction here as the struggling lefty faced the Chicago White Sox and their journeyman starter Miguel Gonzalez. Gio Gonzalez has allowed 18 runs on 25 hits and 5 home runs in his last 15.2 innings of work over his last three starts which all flew Over the total. The White Sox lineup has a much better team batting average against southpaws and have averaged over 5 runs per game against lefties this season so this may not be the optimal opponent for Gio to get back on track.

However, I’m not exactly ready to trust Miguel Gonzalez to shut down the Nationals who have scored 10 runs in each of their last two games. Gonzalez has decent numbers but his FIP and xFIP are higher than his ERA and his lone start against Washington last season was not very good as he was hit hard for 6 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings. Gonzalez has not pitched more than 6 innings yet this season and that means the White Sox floundering bullpen which has been smacked around in recent games should see plenty of work in this game. The Over is worthy of a wager in this game with suspect pitching involved on both sides.

Miami Marlins vs. Minnesota Twins
Tom Koehler and Ervin Santana are firmly in the ‘mediocre starter’ category and both could be vulnerable here in this matchup. Koehler has a 4.59 road ERA and has not fared well against American League teams on the road including last year when he gave up 11 runs on 13 hits in 12.2 innings in a pair of road outings at Toronto and Boston. Minnesota’s lineup isn’t on that level but Koehler struggled allowing 3 runs in just 4 innings against them back in 2013 and the Twins have perked up offensively scoring 23 runs in their last 5 games.

On the flip side, Ervin Santana has not been very efficient of late for the Twins and his last two starts here at Target Field were not very good allowing 11 runs on 15 hits in 9.2 innings of work at home during that span against Tampa Bay and Kansas City. Miami is 16-11 to the Over on the road and Minnesota is 18-10 to the Over at home providing a 34-21 betting angle to bet this game up and Over the total between the Marlins and Twins on Thursday night.
