Two of the American League’s best pitchers go at it today and for my MLB picks, I am backing under the total when the Cleveland Indians visit the Detroit Tigers.

MLB odds makers have opened this game up at 7.5 for the total.  At Heritage Sports Book right now is the lowest juice on this game at -105. For an American League game this total is pretty low but both these pitchers are really solid.

Great Season So Far
Danny Salazar comes in for the Indians with a 3.50 ERA and 1.15 WHIP.  He is having a really solid year so far and is coming off a solid outing allowing one earned run in seven innings.  He is also one of the top strikeout pitchers in the league with 81 in just 62 innings.  David Price for the Tigers takes the mound with a 2.70 ERA and 1.15 WHIP.  Interestingly enough he has a home ERA over 4.00, but because he is veteran pitcher with a career ERA just over 3.00 I look for him to get that number down as opposed to continue that trend against a pretty good Cleveland offense.

At the Plate
Both Cleveland and Detroit are two of the better offenses in the league.  They both rank in the upper half of the league in most offensive categories.  Most notably Detroit is rank 3rd in the league in batting average and Cleveland is ranked 5th in on base percentage.  But they both have struggled some recently.  Except for putting up six runs yesterday the Indians averaged just above 2 runs per game in their five previous games.  The Tigers recently are 8th in the league in strikeouts their past three games.  This could be a tough trend for them against Salazar.

Both these teams have better than average offenses, but with the strength of the pitching matchup I will back the under in this spot.  Look for both Salazar and Price to go deep into this game.
