With both pitchers coming off less than stellar outings I’m a little bit surprised at the line when the Giants visit the Mets. Oddsmakers have seemingly set the total little bit low but is there value in backing under the total?

San Francisco Giants

Matt Moore takes the mound for San Francisco and comes in with a huge 6.75 ERA and 1.56 whip over six starts this season. On those numbers alone you would think this total would be set just a little bit higher but it starts to make some sense considering the fact he has been both hot and cold. I really like Moore and belief this a good bounce back spot for him against the light-hitting Mets because there have been times this year when he has been extremely good. He has had a tough slate of games so far this year having to face some of the better hitting teams in baseball in Arizona twice, Colorado twice, and San Francisco’s rival the Los Angeles Dodgers twice.

Look for him to shake off the few bad outings he has had this season and come in and pitch well. At the plate, San Francisco has been less than stellar and rank in the bottom part of the league in most offensive statistics hitting just .233 as a team and averaging 7.94 runs per game both which rank 25th in the league.

New York Mets

Jacob deGrom gets the start for New York and comes in with a 3.68 ERA and 1.36 whip, well below his career 2.81 ERA and 1.11 whip. He has had a couple rough outings this season especially in his last appearance at Atlanta where he allowed five earned runs off of eight hits in just five innings. For me, this puts them in a nice bounce back spot to come in and pitch well against the Giants at home. He has some decent numbers against San Francisco the last few seasons in four appearances allowing the Giants to hit just .214 against him so he should come in and pitch with a lot of confidence.

At the plate, like San Francisco, New York has been less than stellar this year matching the Giants in batting average hitting just .233 so far this season.  Their numbers really don’t get much better against left-handers so although I do believe they will score a couple, combined with San Francisco I just don’t see these two teams getting over the number.

San Francisco Giants vs N.Y. Mets

Oddsmakers have come out setting the total for this game at 7.5. For my MLB pick, I’m point to back under the total and look for both these pitchers to have nice bounce back performances. Neither offense is particularly good so far this season so I have a lot of trouble thinking they’re going to score enough in this matchup.
