Madison Bumgarner and A.J. Burnett both land in favorable spots Wednesday night, which will lead to a low-scoring affair between the San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies. We cashed with a moneyline play yesterday, but tonight we are looking to place our MLB picks on the total instead.

A solid road trip
San Francisco is 4-1 on its current seven-game road trip, which includes a 9-6 extra-innings victory over Philadelphia as -119 favorites Tuesday, while going OVER the betting total for the fourth time in that span.

The Giants have won 12 of their last 15 contests in National League East ballparks, which is important to consider when looking over the MLB betting odds, especially with outfielder Hunter Pence leading the league with 73 runs scored.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is a solid 19-11 as favorites of -125 to -150 when playing away from the Bay Area.

Slide continues
Philadelphia has dropped six of its last seven games, as closer Jonathan Papelpon was unable to convert his 24th save in 26 chances last night, while it has gone OVER the betting total in all but one of those affairs.

The Phillies have compiled a 10-12 record against left-handed starters this season, with the UNDER going 10-9-3 in that situation.

MLB handicappers will find that the club is 21-35 as home underdogs of +100 to +125 since the start of the 2012 campaign.

Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner (11-7, 3.38 ERA) has tallied back-to-back victories, including a 9-1 road win over the Miami Marlins last time out, as he allowed a single run and four hits over six innings of work.

The left-hander is 7-2 with a 1.94 ERA in 11 road appearances, with opposing hitters batting .218 against him (.305 at home).

In three career efforts versus the Phillies, Bumgarner has tallied a 1-2 record and 4.05 ERA.

Phillies starting pitcher A.J. Burnett (6-9, 4.08 ERA) has alternated wins and losses over his last three trips to the mound, as he comes off a 6-4 setback on the road to the Atlanta Braves—surrendering six runs and 10 hits over five frames.

The right-hander is 3-4 with a 3.39 ERA in 10 home outings, as he’s issued 31 walks and struck out 57 batters in 66.1 combined innings.

Burnett has registered a 6-3 record and 2.30 ERA when facing off against the Giants—his best career ERA versus any opponent.

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total as one of their MLB picks, as the UNDER is 4-1 in Burnett’s last five efforts as a home underdog.
