Nine-inning doubleheaders are back, as the San Francisco Giants visit the New York Mets for their Tuesday twin bill. Check out our Giants-Mets picks for Game 1.

Both the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets are off to extremely hot starts to the 2022 campaign.

San Francisco sits second in the NL West with a 7-2 record following a three-game series sweep of the Cleveland Guardians. The Giants have thus far gotten it done with their pitching, as they've allowed the fewest runs in baseball.

Meanwhile, the perennially disappointing Mets may finally be ready to live up to their lofty expectations. They're 7-3 following series wins over the Arizona Diamondbacks, Philadelphia Phillies, and Washington Nationals. New York ranks fourth in runs scored and second in runs allowed.

Here are my MLB picks and predictions for Tuesday’s game between the Giants and Mets (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Giants vs. Mets Odds

Giants vs. Mets Odds Analysis

The Mets opened as -130 favorites for Monday evening's affair before the postponement. They're now hovering around -120 at most sportsbooks. For those looking to back the underdogs, the Giants are +108 at FanDuel.

The total opened at 7.5 before moving to 7 across the board. The Under is +100 for Tuesday afternoon's matchup.

Giants vs. Mets Projected Pitchers

Alex Cobb (1-0, 3.60 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) vs. Tylor Megill (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.58 WHIP)

Cobb's first start of the season came in an easy win against the San Diego Padres. He struck out 10 over five innings of work, giving up just two runs on four hits and two walks. Cobb bounced back in 2021 following a catastrophic few seasons with the Baltimore Orioles. He pitched to a 3.76 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 93 1/3 innings for the Los Angeles Angels last year.

Megill has been one of the great early surprises for a Mets rotation that features some of the game's premier starters. Following an up-and-down rookie campaign, the big right-hander has stifled the Nationals and Phillies through his first two starts.

Giants vs. Mets ML Pick

Mets (-125)

Could this finally be the year the Mets don't completely fail to live up to expectations? New York thus far looks like the team to beat in the NL East after dismantling two division rivals to kick off the campaign, and now it has the pleasure of playing at home. Even during their disappointing 2021 campaign, the Mets were much stronger at home. They went 47-34 at Citi Field compared to 30-51 on the road.

The offseason additions of Starling Marte and Eduardo Escobar are already paying dividends, and Francisco Lindor is performing like a player deserving of his massive contract. On the mound, Megill will look to keep his ERA in pristine condition. He's had success this season by inducing ground balls (52.2% ground-ball rate) and keeping hitters off-balance (30.6% called + swinging strike rate).

For their part, the Giants are no slouches. They owned baseball's best record last season and are off to an equally hot start in 2022.

Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader will be tightly contested, but the Mets' bats should be enough to give them the edge in the matinee.

Giants vs. Mets O/U Pick

Over 7 (-120)

Both starters have kicked off the campaign in superb fashion, but two of the better offenses in baseball playing on an afternoon featuring tornado-like winds will prove to be too much.

Between these lineups, Cobb and Megill will be forced to run through a gauntlet of power threats and tough lefties. Citi Field traditionally plays more pitcher-friendly, but the gusting winds out to center field could really throw a wrench into that idea.

It's unlikely to be a slugfest, but Game 1 will feature more runs than the evening affair, and it should cash the Over on a low number.

Giants vs. Mets Prop Bet

Pederson home run (+480)

As is the case with many left-handed sluggers, Giants outfielder Joc Pederson does almost all of his damage against righties. And he's particularly successful against Megill's pitch mix.

Pederson hit 17 of his 18 home runs last year against fastballs and off-speed pitches. In contrast, he struggles mightily against breaking pitches. Megill features a fastball and changeup, combining to throw the two pitches 84% of the time through two starts this season.

Without the looming threat of a big breaker, Pederson should sit on something he likes and pop one over the wall in Citi Field.
