San Francisco took the first game of this three-game series in Phoenix on Friday night with a 6-5 win for the Giants' fifth straight victory. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks dropped their seventh game over the team's last nine contests.
While the Giants hope to keep winning with Alex Cobb on the mound, the Diamondbacks turn to Merrill Kelly, who’s performed well against San Francisco all season.

The Diamondbacks are the Moneyline favorites, ranging from –116 at FanDuel to -120 at DraftKings and BetMGM.The total is set at 7.5 through all major sportsbooks.
Both tickets and cash are favoring the Giants, with San Francisco getting 84% of the cash and 65% of the tickets.
Giants vs. Diamondbacks Projected Pitchers
Alex Cobb (6-6, 3.48 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) vs. Merrill Kelly (12-7, 3.15 ERA, 1.13 WHIP)
Cobb is coming off a quality start against a potent Dodgers lineup, allowing just four hits and two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings. He's now lasted five-plus innings in three straight games.
However, his numbers against the Diamondbacks are concerning. He’s 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA and 15 strikeouts against Arizona during his career. Though that's not a huge sample size, the Diamondbacks have surprisingly won the season series thus far, taking eight of 13 games this year.
Meanwhile, Kelly will make his 31st start of the season. He’s coming off a poor outing against the Dodgers on Tuesday, pitching 6 2/3 innings while allowing five earned runs and eight hits. Regardless, Kelly is producing a solid campaign for the Diamondbacks, and he's done especially well against the Giants. The hurler is 5-3 with a 2.56 ERA and 72 strikeouts over his career against San Francisco.

Diamondbacks (-116) ★★
The Giants have been a very streaky team all season. While they’re riding the high of a five-game winning streak right now, Friday night's game was a close one-run battle. These two offenses match up well in terms of production.
However, given Cobb’s struggles against the Diamondbacks and Kelly’s success when facing the Giants, the Diamondbacks get the edge here. Kelly is looking to rebound, and he’s been pretty solid for Arizona all season. He's unlikely to put up two straight poor starts, especially against the Giants.
The Diamondbacks have been favored in just 39 games during the 2022 season, but they’ve won only 22 of those contests.

Under 7.5 runs (-105) ★★
These are two pretty middle-of-the-road offenses. The Giants’ offense is 17th in MLB, and the Diamondbacks rank 20th. The Under has hit four times over the last five games between these two squads.
