Here's a couple of winning MLB picks for all of you fathers and bettors alike. It's time to cash in with our Father's Day Weekend MLB Picks of the Day!

Washington Nationals at San Diego Padres
With a total mismatch comes a big-time chalk and if we side with the chalk, which is likely, you live with the consequences. In this case, the chalk looks mighty appealing as strikeout machine, Max Scherzer (8-4, 3.40 ERA) and the hard-hitting Washington Nationals (43-25) are -217 betting favorites against a terrible San Diego Padres (27-42) team. The pitching matchup favors the Nats and Petco Park is a pitcher-friendly ball park. This even reinforces the idea of siding with the Nationals.

"Mad Max"
When you bypass money from the Detroit Tigers and your salary hinges on your next season of play, you believe in yourself. This is exactly what Scherzer did. He had a fantastic season with Detroit a couple of season's ago ; "betting on himself", so to speak, and cashed in, receiving  big-time contract. He basically went to a similar team to Detroit in that the Nationals have some big-time hitters in Bryce Harper (14 HR, 42 RBI, .410 OBP%), Daniel Murphy (12 HR, 45 RRBI, .361 BA), and a surprising huge season from Wilson Ramos (11 HR, 38 RBI, .337 BA).

The Nationals are a well rounded squad, on a 3 game winning streak, and hold a very secure 6 game lead over a depleted New York Mets team. Washington has to feel really good coming into this game with Scherzer starting as their team has averaged over 6 runs per game in their last 3 wins and have basically owned the weak-hitting Padres squad.

In yesterday's 7-5 victory over San Diego, Daniel Murphy had a much needed huge game as he went 2 for 4 with 1 HR and 3 RBI. Murphy also had a double and 2 runs scored. I say much needed because Murph was headed for .400 earlier in the season and has tailed off a bit. Yesterday's game had to provide him with some confidence.

As for Max Scherzer, June has been very favorable to him as he's pitched a total of 22 innings, allowing 3 runs on 13 hits and striking out 28 batters along wih his 1.23 BA. Scherzer has pinpoint control and I just don't see the Padres having a prayer in this matchup and am willing to lay the massive amount of juice with the Nats.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Chicago Cubs
We're going to stay with the chalk as you have a choice of two games in which Steven Matz is starting for the Mets against the Atlanta Braves or Jon Lester (8-3, 1.89 ERA)  and the best team in the MLB in the Chicago Cubs (45-20) face a Pittsburgh Pirates (33-34) team that has not lived up to expectations. I happen to like the experience in Lester, he's had a better season than Matz, and the Cubs are simply the best. Not only are the Cubs the MLB Odds on favorites to win the World Series, they're facing a Pittsburgh Pirates team which is 2-8 in their last 10 games and has lost 3 straight games.

Could the Cubs WIn a World Series For the 1st Time in Over a Century?
Everyone thinks of the Chicago Cubs as the loveable losers and remembers the Steve Bartman incident. I have news for those people. This team is the real deal, carrying last season's NL Cy Young Award winner in Jake Arrieta and also possess the fierceness of Jon Lester. A lot of teams would love to have this duo.

Jon Lester
Lester has been stupendous, pitching 9 out of 10 quality outings. In his last 3 games, Lester has pitched a total of 24 innings and has allowed a mere 1 earned run, 13 hits and has struck out 26 batters without allowing a single walk. This sound a lot like Max Scherzer, who I had mentioned in our first game. Lester has been perfect.

This game is quite simple. Although the Pirates have the talent of Starling Marte, Gregory Polanco, and Andrew McCutchen. Good pitching wins games and that favors the Cubbies.

Let's also not forget that the Cubs have some talented hitters in their own right;  Ben Zobrist (9 HR, 40 RBI, .421 OBP%), Dexter Fowler (7 HR, 28 RBI, .399 OBP%), Kris Bryant (15 HR, 45 RBI, .360 OBP%), and Anthony Rizzo (15 HR, 49 RBI, .388 OBP%) to name a few. There's a common theme and that's the Cubs offense to get on base. On base percentage is much more important than batting average. Take the Cubs and Lester at home for your MLB Picks this Saturday.
