Arguably the most meaningful game today will be taking place in Detroit as a Tigers host the Baltimore Orioles. Both of these teams are in the thick of the wildcard hunt in the American League with only a game separating them so this should be a real fun one to watch. It also includes a great pitching matchup with Detroit being a slight home favorite, but where is the value in this matchup?

Baltimore Orioles
Kevin Gausman takes the mound for Baltimore and comes in with a 3.58 ERA and 1.28 whip but has not allowed an earned run in his last three starts. Versus Detroit in an earlier game in the season he did not fare very well allowing four earned runs off of 10 hits in five innings. However, recently he has been extremely good allowing zero earned runs in his last three starts allowing just 15 hits in 19 innings versus the Yankees twice in the Nationals once. As well, over his last 10 starts he is been really solid except for one tough outing in Toronto back in late July. Outside of that, he has allowed just 12 earned runs over his last nine starts so he is coming in with some confidence and should pitch well today. Considering his recent streak grabbing him with some plus money I believe is some nice value. Offensively Baltimore is one of the better hitting teams in baseball and over their last three games, they have been knocking the ball all over the yard. They had a bit of success against today's starter for Detroit so I am anticipating for them to be able to score.

Detroit Tigers
Michael Fulmer gets the start for Detroit and comes in with a 2.77 ERA and 1.08 whip but has allowed 12 earned runs in his last three starts. In those last three, the Tigers have lost each one and a little bit of the shine has come off of the 23-year-old rookie. He definitely hasn't had an easy go over his last 10 starts having to face not only some of the best hitting teams in baseball in Boston, Texas, and Cleveland, but also one of the hottest teams in the American League the Kansas City Royals. Still, Baltimore got to him for four earned runs off of five hits in just four innings in their one opportunity to face him this season so I doubt he will get out of this game unscathed. At the plate, Detroit remains a force to be reckoned with but they have struggled just a touch over the last couple of games getting shut out once in Chicago and then losing 7-4 in their last game. For me, this is really about value in that these teams matchup really well, they are both starting two good starters and I think it could go either way.

Final Analysis
Baltimore has been made the slight underdog in this spot with some plus money value from +105 to +110 across the board. I'm going to back the Orioles +110 like at Bookmaker. As mentioned, I believe this game to go either way and Gausman has been pitching extremely well recently so little bit of plus money on him I think is the way to go for my Free MLB Pick. This is going to be a huge series for both teams as the playoffs are just around the corner.
