Coming off of 6 straight wins, we’re sorry to see the previous series leave us, but that’s baseball. Time to make some adjustments for the new betting card that’s available for Friday.

Detroit Tigers (43-32) at Houston Astros (34-46)

Strutting Like a Peacock?
With these Detroit bats ready to swing for the fences and on a 7 game winning streak, the last thing that Astros starter Brad Peacock (2-4, 4.50) will be doing is strutting.

You have the best current player in the game in Miguel Cabrera coming off of a 4 for 5 performance last night as the Tigers once again destroyed the Texas Rangers 6-0. Much to my surprise, Rick Porcello came up with a complete game shutout. Is tonight Justin Verlander’s turn?

The New Tim Lincecum?
Although Lincecum is coming off of a perfect game, people know him as the player who pitched back to back CY Young years and then his career took a turn for the worse.

Justin Verlander appears to be following that same pattern. For the last two seasons, he hasn’t been the same dominant pitcher that he was in the past. Is it the contract? Is it logging too many innings in a short period of time? Is it his personal life? Whatever it is, he needs to right the ship as he’s an intregal part of this team’s success.

After 3 embarrassing outings, “JV” came back strong against the Cleveland Indians in his last start as he pitched 7 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 8 batters. I have major confidence in the Tigers hitters, but I don’t want to see this game go to the bullpen too early. Houston can be very streaky.

It’s Not the Size of the Man...
Five foot five inch Jose Altuve has proven that even though he’s miniature in stature, he can produce and the Astros need his bat. Altuve is having a career year hitting .334 with 2 HR, 25 RBI, and 30 SB. Verlander needs to keep the little man off of the basepaths.
Pick: Detroit -139 at 5 Dimes

Los Angeles Angels (44-33) at Kansas Royals (40-38)

The Angels Are Sizzling
Even though there is no loyalty in betting, I’m going to stick with the teams who are playing well and have produced where my pockets and the pockets of my readers are concerned.

You have a Los Angeles Angels team that hasn’t seen 11 games over .500 for a very long time and have won 6 straight games. I personally (on television) watched Angels starter Matt Shoemaker (5-1, 3.42) pitch a heck of a game on Sunday Night Baseball and if I’m going to ride the Angels bandwagon, I’ll be happy with Shoemaker on the road as he faces a tough Jason Vargas (7-3, 3.16) and a hot and cold Kansas City Royals team.

The Angels destroyed Minnesota in their recent series and the only negative thing that I took away from it was that Minnesota scored 3 runs in the 9th inning of last night’s game to make the Halos sweat it out. That said, Los Angeles won the game and winning is what it’s all about.

Mr. Baseball
Kids love him, parents love him, grandparents love him, and other teams wish that they had on their squad. Mike Trout is becoming a household name with his great spirit and phenomenal play on the field.

Trout is a 5-tool player whose greatness is ahead of its time. He got off to a rocky start this season, but is hitting .310 (402 on-base %) with 17 HR, 58 RBI, and 10 SB.  Trout has also hit .356 in the month of June with 6 HR and 20 RBI. Folks, he’s only going to get better! if he can stay away from the injury bug, you’ll see his plaque up in Cooperstown, N.Y. in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 20 years.

Aside from his fantastic hitting, Trout can save games in the field. This is a player that brings people to the ballpark and makes pitchers pitch around him. I don’t see Vargas doing this so this should make for a great matchup.

The bottom line is I don’t know which K.C. Royals team will show up tonight, but I do know which Angels team will show up. Take the Halos on the road as one of your MLB picks for today.
Pick: Los Angeles Angels +100 at 5 Dimes (These are FANTASTIC odds!)
