We browse the early odds board in search of MLB betting value on Friday's card. Read on for two selections that will maximize your profits as the weekend starts.

Nationals vs. Mets

Right-hander Max Scherzer (7-4, 2.36 ERA, 0.85 WHIP) takes the hill for the Nationals after losing Sunday's start against the Rangers. Scherzer took the loss despite giving up just two earned runs on three hits (one home run) and one walk with 10 strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings and now he's allowed just four earned runs in 32 innings over his last four starts and he's 5-1 with an impressive 1.95 ERA and one complete game in seven road starts.

Steven Matz (1-0, 1.29 ERA, 0.86 WHIP) was supposed to start Thursday's series opener but he pinch-hit with the bases loaded and had an RBI infield single, which helped spark a comeback in the Mets' 9-4 win over the Cubs on Wednesday.

Matz pitched well in his first start of the season last Saturday, allowing just one earned run on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts over seven innings in an 8-1 win against the Braves. The left-hander posted a 1.80 ERA in two starts against the Nationals last season and their current lineup hits just .135 (5-for-37) against him. 'Under' 7.5 at -113 MLB odds is the play here.

Dodgers vs. Reds

This will be Alex Wood's second start since returning from the 10-day disabled list (inflammation of the SC joint in his shoulder). Wood faced the Reds on Saturday and gave up three earned runs on three hits and no walks with seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings to get a no-decision in a 5-4 win.

Tim Adleman will make his 12th appearance (11th start) for the Reds. The right-hander got a no-decision against the Dodgers on Sunday, when he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits (two home runs) and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings of a 9-7 loss.

Adleman has a 4.13 ERA in six home appearances (five starts) and Wood is 1-0 with a 2.21 ERA in four road starts and he's made me plenty of money this season, so I will back him with my MLB picks here.
