Check in with us before you place your final MLB picks for Friday. We want a good start to our weekend just like you, so here's our pitching report, complete with our handicappers' favorite plays of the day.

New York Mets (deGrom) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (Cumpton)
Covered by Willie Bee
Brandon Cumpton, despite his overall struggles this season, has been much better lately, so Pittsburgh should be feeling good heading into this home game against the Mets tonight.

The Pirates are favored at right around -140, with some sportsbooks even releasing a line of -150. New York will try to avoid a third consecutive loss, with Jacob deGrom (1-4, 3.75 ERA) getting the start. Willie will have his pick available for reading soon.

MLB Pick: Pirates -140

St. Louis Cardinals (Martinez) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (Ryu)
Covered by Ron Patrick and Jeff Grant
After yesterday's expected pitchers duel, which was won by Josh Beckett and the Dodgers, runs could be easier to find tonight with Hyun-Jin Ryu and Carlos Martinez pitching. Ryu has been solid at 9-3 with a 3.06 ERA, but Martinez isn't an experienced starter and isn't having his best season.

We have two handicappers analyzing this game and they both like Los Angeles. Jeff is just taking them on the money-line, while Ron has decided to take them on the run-line, while also favoring the UNDER.

Pick: Ron: Dodgers -1.5 (+160) and UNDER 7 // Jeff: Dodgers -140

Cincinnati Reds (Cueto) vs. San Francisco Giants (Bumgarner)
Covered by Ron Patrick
This is easily the best pitching matchup of the night, with Madison Bumgarner and the Giants and Johnny Cueto and the Reds set to engage in battle. Current MLB odds show San Francisco favored at -120.

The Giants are just 3-7 over their last 10 games overall, while the Reds have won two straight and are 7-3 in their past 10. Ron is staying away from a side here though and picking the UNDER to cash.

Pick: UNDER 6

Boston Red Sox (Workman) vs. New York Yankees (Nuno)
Covered by Matthew Jordan
It's always a good time when these two familiar foes square off. This time the Yankees will be the hosts, though they may be worrying about their chances in the series opener, given the fact Vidal Nuno (1-4, 5.88 ERA) has been brutal this season.

Boston will turn to Brandon Workman, who has recorded an excellent 2.88 ERA through 34 and 1/3 innings of work in 2014. Matthew believes we should back Boston and the OVER tonight.

Pick: Matthew: Red Sox +100 and OVER 9

Detroit Tigers (Verlander) vs. Houston Astros (Peacock)
Covered by Jeff Grant
Normally you would feel confident with Justin Verlander on the mound, but that hasn't been the case at all this season. Verlander has struggled immensely, as his 6-7 record and 4.82 ERA would confirm. It hasn't hindered the Tigers too much though, as they're still 43-32 and 4.5 games up in the division.

Detroit takes a seven-game winning streak into tonight and they're of course favored at a healthy number despite being away from home. Jeff will be adding the Tigers to his sports picks.

Pick: Tigers -154

Cleveland Indians (Bauer) vs. Seattle Mariners (Young)
Covered by Jeff Grant
The Mariners may have lost their last time out but they're still playing the better baseball right now. They'll still, however, be classed as underdogs despite being at home for this encounter with the Indians.

Cleveland is a miserable 15-25 on the road, part of the reason we understand why Jeff likes this value on Seattle. He's looking for the Mariners to get it done behind Chris Young (6-4, 3.23 ERA).

Pick: Mariners +105
