We usually are exclusive to Mondays, Thursdays and Sunday Night Baseball for our prop betting picks this season. However, with the second half getting underway on Friday and after a huge night to close the first half, Friday night’s slate is ripe for the picking at Bovada sportsbook.
It only took the All Star Break to forget that Bryce Harper may be the best all around player in baseball, because at +105 for the over on this one, I like Harper to come out of the gate strong in Cincinnati tonight.
The Reds are starting righty Tim Adleman, who has by no means been very good overall in the first half. With Harper’s .447 wOBa against right-handers this season, I have no problem being given +105 on top to sweeten the deal. This might be what the sportsbooks were hoping for. However, I think the park factor of being in Great American will tip the scales in our favor.
Great American is a gift to left-handed hitters. Its small dimensions make it a perfect hitters park and if they get some wind tonight in Cincinnati, one Harper homer nets us +105. He hasn’t been that great there throughout his career, but after the All Star Break, he should be up for the challenge tonight.Free MLB Pick: OVER 2 ½ (+105)Best Line Offered: at Bovada
Oakland Athletics O/U 3 ½ runs
This one is pretty simple and straightforward. The Athletics are up against Carlos Carraso tonight and they may be hard-pressed to get one or two runs all night, let alone four or more.
The Indians are going to start coming around in the second half and it’s going to start tonight. They know if they get into the playoffs, their one-two punch of Carrasco and Corey Kluber is as good as anyone.
On top of that, if Mike Clevinger continues to pitch the way he has, there’s a lot of promise in this team in the playoffs when these guys are on the hill. I’ve seen Clevinger a lot in Triple-A, but tonight with Carrasco on the mound, I can’t see the A’s getting to him, Andrew Miller, or whomever else takes the mound on Friday for the Indians.
