Orioles vs. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
The Orioles starter Kevin Gausman has gone a profitable 5-1 against the money on the road this season with a solid 2.91 ERA. The Orioles right-hander has allowed just 3 home runs in 73.0 innings pitched in 2014, that’s good for 1 per 24.3 innings pitched. Gausman has struggled in his starts during the day, going 3-4 against the money, with a lofty 5.09 ERA, and a 1.64 WHIP.

The Cubs Jake Arrieta has simply been a terrific pitcher on a bad team this season. He’s gone 11-8 against the money, with a stellar 2.61 ERA, and 1.02 WHIP. In 8-starts at Wrigley Field in 2014 the Cubs hurler has been superb, compiling a 1.94 ERA, and 0.90 WHIP. Arrieta has seen just 6 of his last 21-starts go over the total.

Advantage: Considering how well Arrieta has pitched at home this season, in addition to how consistent Gausman has been on the road thus far, and the currently anemic Cubs bats over the past couple of weeks, I’m leaning toward this being a low scoring affair. I will be making a small wager on this one to go under the total at Bet365.

Giants vs. Nationals 7:05 PM ET
The Giants starter Tim Hudson isn’t having the best season of his career, but he’s certainly having a solid year. He’s gone 14-9 against the money, with a more than respectable 3.03 ERA, and 1.18 WHIP. The veteran right-hander has pitched very well in 11 road starts during 2014, as evidenced by his sparkling 2.42 ERA in those outings. He’s seen 8 of his 11-starts at night this year go under the total. On a negative note, he’s displayed shaky form over his last 3-starts, posting a very lofty 6.00 ERA, and an unimpressive 1.73 WHIP.

The Nationals starter Doug Fister seems to be quietly having a fantastic year. He’s gone 14-4 against the money, with a 2.20 ERA, and a better than 5:1 strikeout to walk ratio. He’s been even better at home, going 7-1 versus the money line, with an excellent 1.76 ERA, a 0.87 WHIP, and a nearly 6:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Fister enters tonight in super form in his last 3-starts with a perfect 0.00 ERA, and he’s also posted a microscopic 0.51 ERA in his last 5 overall.

Advantage: As I alluded to already, the Giants Tim Hudson is having a good year. The problem is that Hudson enters tonight in bad form, in addition to being opposed by a red-hot starting pitcher, and having to face a surging Washington Nationals team. The betting edge here goes to Doug Fister over Tim Hudson for our MLB picks.
