Our expert handicapper, Mark Lathrop, celebrates his birthday by giving us two more winning picks as he makes his Tuesday MLB Picks of the Day. Following Memorial Day The "Over" Trend Will Continue.

These teams exploded for 24 runs on Monday afternoon in Minnesota. Our MLB handicapper thinks the hitting bug is contagious and will continue to cash an Over ticket on Tuesday night.

Jose Berrios gets the start for the Twins in this matchup, and after looking over his stats for the season it is immediately apparent that his results are better than his true talent level. Berrios is running a .106 BABIP through 21.2 innings pitched and three starts. That level of luck is basically guaranteed to end soon with his career BABIP of .295 on the books. It is also the reason for his FIP of 3.76 against a sparkly ERA of 1.66. Another amazing statistic sure to end soon is that Berrios has not allowed a hit while a man has been on base this season – over a stretch of 7 innings. I hate to say someone is “due”, but in this case it is true.

Mike Fiers takes the mound for Houston in this one and he has been very good at one thing this year – giving up dingers. He’s given up at least one per start on the season and multiple home runs in 6 of his 9 starts. He’s running a FIP of 7.56 on the year and a HR/FB rate of 31%. Not much analysis is needed here to believe he will give up his share of runs. I’m taking the Over of 9 in this game at 5Dimes as one of my MLB Picks of the day.

Seattle Mariners vs Colorado Rockies

The Mariners left about 40 men in scoring position on Monday afternoon in Colorado, as our pick of over 11 runs in that game pushed. Here we go back to the well and take another shot at offensive output in Denver.

Lefty Ariel Miranda gets this start for the Mariners, and his extreme fly ball rate won’t work for him here as well as it does at Safeco Field. The weather will be warm and Miranda’s 48.8% fly ball rate will end up costing him a few cheap runs. Otherwise, Miranda has been a decent average starter for the Mariners with a FIP of 4.67. He’ll get lifted for a pinch hitter after the 5th inning though and we will see the Mariner bullpen and their 4.97 ERA.

Tyler Anderson will start for the Rockies and he has had a good run over his last few games. He does allow a .289 batting average allowed against right-handers though, which will help Seattle as their marginal hitters are on that side of the plate while their stars are lefties. A 4.91 FIP and 25% HR/FB rate is nothing to write home about though, so I will be taking my chances with the offenses of these two teams continuing to click. Take Over 11 runs at +105 at 5Dimes as one your MLB Picks of the Day.
