Sports handicapper Ian Cameron looks ahead to the Overnight Betting Lines on the MLB odds for Thursday's slate.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
Michael Wacha seems to be rounding into better form ever since a very rough outing in his first start of the season against Pittsburgh. Over his last 3 starts, Wacha has allowed just 3 earned runs on 15 hits in 18 innings of work against Milwaukee, Cincinnati and San Diego. Arizona will be a tougher lineup to face but Wacha did fare well against the Diamondbacks in two starts against them in 2014 surrendering 2 runs in 11 innings in those starts combined.

Rubby De La Rosa is still very much a wildcard starting pitcher for me and I’m not sure one improved start against Pittsburgh in his last outing where he allowed just a single run in 6 innings is enough to convince me he has turned things around. He faced St. Louis once last season and was roughed up for 5 runs in 5 innings and gave up a pair of home runs. I still need to see De La Rosa put B2B solid outings together before I can get to the betting window in support of him so I’ll lean to the Cardinals as short road chalk for my MLB pick to get the win in this game.

Miami Marlins vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
We have two impressive starters on the mound here with Jose Fernandez for Miami and Kenta Maeda for the LA Dodgers. Fernandez hasn’t been at his absolute best in April but we know he has the ‘A’ quality stuff to be a dominant starter and it should be a good matchup for him against an LA Dodgers lineup that hasn’t faced him in two years and it’s worth noting Fernandez has held LA to 3 runs or less in his 3 career starts against them since 2013 and Miami won all three games.

Kenta Maeda has been dominant on the other side of this pitching matchup for the LA Dodgers allowing just 1 run in 25.1 innings of work in his first four starts and he is inducing a lot of weak contact and swings and misses which proves that his strong numbers here in the first month of the season are very legitimate. Miami has a very erratic lineup which can be productive in certain games and feeble in others and it’s worth noting they have been weaker against right-handed starters this season which should lead to another potential strong outing from Maeda here.

It’s hard to envision runs in bunches in this game although the total is indicative of that with the number for this total sitting at 6.5, however, I’d still lean toward this game staying Under the total and be a low scoring affair. There aren’t any bargains to support Maeda here as a near -130 favorite on the MLB odds against a top tier pitcher like Jose Fernandez. However, it’s also difficult to step in front of the LA Dodgers with Maeda on the mound until he stumbles and that has yet to occur.
