Sunday Night ESPN Baseball
The Dodgers and Giants will play the rubber match of their three game weekend series on Sunday night at AT&T Park in San Francisco. The first pitch is slated for 8:30 PM ET, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN. Los Angeles took the series opener on Friday with a 3-2 victory, and San Francisco rebounded yesterday for a 5-4 extra inning win. This will be the 10th meeting of the season between these bitter NL West rivals, and San Francisco has gone 5-4 during the first nine encounters.

Intriguing Starting Pitching Matchup
Talk about a contrast in experience and age, the disparity doesn’t get much wider regarding Sunday’s starting pitching matchup. The Dodgers will go with 19-year-old Julio Urias. The native of Mexico will be making just his fourth career MLB start. Contrarily, San Francisco sends 35-year-old veteran Jake Peavy to the mound, and he’ll be making his 369th career start.

Urias began the season pitching for AAA Oklahoma City and was absolutely dominant. During seven starts and one relief appearance, Urias posted an excellent 1.10 ERA. Things haven’t gone quite as smoothly for the youngster since being called up. Granted he’s coming off an impressive start at home versus Colorado, but he was removed after just 4.0 innings of work. Urias has really struggled in two road starts, compiling an awful 9.39 ERA and massive 2.35 WHIP during those outings. This will be his first career appearance versus San Francisco.

Jake Peavy has displayed very good form over his previous three starts, posting a 2.41 ERA and superb 0.80 WHIP. Peavy has made six starts versus the Dodgers since 2009, and compiled an excellent 0.93 WHIP during those outings.

“Numbers don’t Lie and Liars don’t Figure”
Current MLB Odds indicates that the Dodgers are a -108 favorite today. Los Angeles is a dismal 6-15 this season when installed as +125 to -125 on the money line. As a matter of fact, the Dodgers are 12-1 in 2016 when Clayton Kershaw is their starting pitcher, and have gone a poor 21-29 (.420) during the rest of its games.

After getting off to a 7-10 start to the year, San Francisco is a stellar 30-16 (.652) since then. The Giants are also an impressive 23-13 (.639) in 2016 versus NL West opponents.

Final Take and Pick
There’s no denying the raw physical talent that Dodgers teenager Julio Urias possesses. However, making his debut start in this heated rivalry and on the road nonetheless is a tall order.

Conversely, Jake Peavy has been there and done that more than a few times. Peavy will also be facing a Dodgers lineup which has amassed a paltry 6 hits or less in 8 of its last 10 games. I like the home underdog value, and one of my Sunday MLB Picks will be indicative of just that.
