Coverage: FSKC, CSNCA
Forecast for Game Time:

Kansas City Royals
Chris Young allowed four runs and eight hits in just four innings, walking two and striking out two as the Royals saw their four-game winning streak come to an end with yesterday's 5-3 loss in the second game of this series against the A's.

Lorenzo Cain singled in a run in the first inning. It was the fourth time in five games that Kansas City scored in the opening inning.

The Royals are currently 19th in the majors with 38 runs scored, 10th with a .259 batting average and 18th with 9 home runs. Kansas City is 4th in MLB with a 2.70 ERA and 16th with a 1.32 WHIP.

Oakland Athletics
Josh Reddick and Stephen Vogt homered to help Sonny Gray get the win after a solid effort. Gray gave up just two runs, one earned over six innings while striking out six as the Athletics ended a four-game losing streak.

The Athletics rank 27th in the majors with 29 runs scored, 26th with a .212 batting average and 13th with 10 home runs. Oakland is 5th in MLB with a 3.15 ERA and 11th with a 1.23 WHIP.

Pitching Matchup
Kris Medlen (1-0, 3.60 ERA) vs. Chris Bassitt (0-0, 2.92 ERA)

Kris Medlen made just eight starts for the Royals last year after coming over from the Braves and went 6-2, although he posted a 4.01 ERA. Kansas City needs more from him this season and he did a decent job in his first outing of the year, throwing five innings and giving up two runs with seven strikeouts in a 3-2 win over the  Astros.

Chris Bassitt will take the hill for the A's. Bassitt hasn't pitched bad in two starts, posting a 2.92 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP over 12.1 innings. He was impressive in his last outing, giving up one unearned run on three hits in seven innings to get a no-decision against the Mariners last Sunday.

Betting Trends
The Royals are 4-2 in road games, 2-0 when playing on Sunday, 6-2 when playing against a team with a losing record and 5-0 in Kris Medlen's last five road starts.

The Athletics are 2-7 in home games, 1-5 in their last six games on Sunday and 1-7 in Chris Bassitt's last eight starts.

Final Analysis
The Kansas City Royals are favored on the MLB odds board at -118 while the Oakland Athletics are at +108 and the total has been set at 7.5.

The Royals have more potential on offense and this pitching matchup favors them, so it's hard to back the Athletics here despite yesterday's win. I like Medlen to keep the Oakland offense under control while the Kansas City offense helps them win this series. I'm taking the Royals -118 with one of my MLB picks.
