Free MLB picks for today's matchup between the Colorado Rockies and the St Louis Cardinals. What have the MLB odds makers laid out for us, and where are we looking to place our sports picks?

The St. Louis Cardinals are 7-1 in their last eight matchups, outscoring foes by a margin of 41-22. Friday’s MLB slate has Mike Matheny’s club opening a three-game home set with the Colorado Rockies, who saw the UNDER cash at 3-1 in their four duels at Busch Stadium last year.

St. Louis’ Shelby Miller (4-2, 1.96 ERA) and Colorado’s Jon Garland (3-2, 4.75 ERA) are slated to square off in a duel of right-handed starters. Will the Cardinals stay hot as hefty ‘chalk’ or does betting the ‘total’ have more value for our MLB picks here?

Miller stingy in Milwaukee

Miller notched his second win in three starts with Friday’s 6-1 win for St. Louis as a plus 100 road dog against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 22-year-old allowed the Brewers’ sole run over six frames, giving up seven hits.

St. Louis came away logging 15 hits in all, with all eight starting position players logging at least one each. Cardinals sluggers Carlos Beltran and Matt Holliday both cracked homers, with Holliday finishing 3-for-4.

The battle’s combined seven runs dipped below the ‘total’ of 8 ½, moving the UNDER to 4-1 in Miller’s last five outings. St. Louis’ Allen Craig and Jon Jay united to bat 5-for-8, with Jay poking a two-run double.

Garland outduels Rays at home

Garland ended a slide of two losses with Saturday’s 9-3 victory for Colorado over the Tampa Bay Rays, cashing as a 124 home dog. The 14-year veteran gave up all three of Tampa Bay’s runs on seven hits, lasting for a five-inning stint.

Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki had his side’s hottest bat in a 3-for-3 night, including his seventh double of the year. Colorado’s Nolan Arenado drilled a grand-slam homer, while mates Eric Young and Carlos Gonzalez united to hit 5-for-9.

Arenado’s blast lifted the contest’s 12 runs above the ‘total’ of nine, making the OVER 4-1 in Garland’s most recent five starts. Rockies reliever Edgmer Escalona logged a hold, tossing a pair of strikeouts over two hitless frames on the hill.

Back the UNDER in St. Louis

MLB odds makers opened Miller as a 175 home favorite, while first setting the ‘total’ at a flat eight. The weather forecast in St. Louis calls for a 63 degree night, with calm winds and a 10 percent chance of rain.

I am adding a ticket on the UNDER here to Friday’s sports picks, looking for a tight opener between these clubs.

Miller has no history against the Rockies but has tossed some stingy ball at home, allowing a 0.87 WHIP and .250 OBP in two outings. The UNDER is 6-0-1 in Colorado’s last seven games against rivals with winning records.

Garland has held his own against most members of St. Louis’ lineup, including a combined 0-for-12 mark facing Rafael Furcal and Jon Jay. The Cardinals have seen the UNDER cash at 4-1 in their last five home dates facing right-handed starters.

Look for the UNDER to collect again here, adding another cashed ticket to the 8-3 mark for the wager in the last 11 meetings between these foes.
