Fenway Park will host tonight’s marquee matchup on the MLB slate. The Boston Red Sox host the Baltimore Orioles for the final game of a three game set.

Key metrics point to the Red Sox, the MLB pick, to cash a ticket at home tonight. The winner tonight will sit atop the American League East standings in sole possession of 1st place. The Orioles are finishing up a seven game road trip by sending Tyler Wilson to the hill to oppose Boston’s lefty starter Eduardo Rodriguez. Both pitchers have struggled of late and both lineups have been catching fire, but a few key metrics point to the Red Sox to cash a ticket at home tonight.

Eduardo Rodriguez, who has giving up ten hits, nine earned runs and walked seven batters in just over 10 innings pitched his last two starts. Has struggled with control, "It's all about consistent command," Red Sox manager John Farrell said before his team evened the early first-place showdown series with a 6-4 win over the Orioles last night. "It's something he's done in the past and something he did in his first start against the Orioles.”

The start he is referring to was just 17 days ago when the 23 year old Venezuelan went 6 innings only giving up 2 runs. Rodriguez kept the ball in the park and earned the win, improving his ERA to 3.86 in four career starts against the division rivals. "The walks have been part of the issues," said Farrell. "He has to stay in the moment. One thing that we try to do with him and the other pitchers in that you have 110 individual events inside each game and to focus on that one individual event and not behind or forward." According to Farrell, Rodriguez’s struggles are correctable and facing a lineup he has had recent success against should help the young lefty’s confidence.

Tyler Wilson takes the hill for the visiting Orioles tonight and he has had his own issues with run suppression. Wilson is enduring a five-start winless streak but got enough offensive support to stay out of the decision at Toronto on Thursday. The former Virginia Cavalier was knocked around for five runs on seven hits and three walks in less than 6 innings of work.

The Orioles, the undergod in the MLB odds, have dropped four of their last five game, all against division opponents and watched the staff surrender 31 runs in those four losses. Tyler Wilson is asked the tough task of quieting one of the hottest lineups in all of baseball the last week, with Boston posting a team OPS of .848 over the last seven days.

As opposed to pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez, who has struggled himself, but has had recent success against this Orioles lineup who has really struggled against lefties this year sporting a team OPS in the bottom five of MLB this year under .700 vs lefties. In addition, the Red Sox have been great at home with a 20-13 record in Fenway and the Orioles have been poor on the road with a 13-16 record. I recommend a wager on Boston tonight in Fenway as a moderate favorite.
