We have reviewed the MLB odds and have honed in on three totals for Monday evening. Let’s sweep the board in our MLB picks tonight!

Cubs (6-5 O/U) vs. Pirates (6-4-2 O/U)
Last night Pittsburgh left their fans happy with a 5-2 victory over the Brewers and a sweep of the three-game series. Conversely, and coincidentally, the Cubs dropped a 5-2 decision to the Padres at home and lost their series by losing two of three.

Tonight the matchup features Chicago’s Jake Arrieta versus Pittsburgh’s A.J. Burnett. Arrieta has been the Cubs main man on the mound in the early going as he is 1-1 with a 1.98 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP. Chicago has provided him with a grand total of two runs in his pair of starts and not surprisingly both games have gone ‘under’ the posted total in MLB odds.

The Pirates counter with veteran A.J. Burnett who has also been more than solid on the hill in his two starts so far this season. Burnett is 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP with both of his starts this season resulting in ‘under’ the MLB odds total.

Both pitchers have been successful when facing their respective opponents with Arrieta compiling a 3-0 record with a 3.13.ERA versus the Pirates while Burnett is officially 7-4 with a 3.25 ERA lifetime against the Cubs. I’m not overly concerned about either of these offenses and believe this will be a low scoring affair with both pitchers lasting into the seventh inning. The ‘under’ in MLB odds is 22-15 over the last three seasons and that should climb to 23-15 when this one is done.

MLB Pick: Play ‘under’ 7 (+105) at Pinnacle

Twins (5-6-1 O/U) vs. Royals (7-5 O/U)
Kyle Gibson will take the bump for the Twins today and he will be opposed by the Royals’ Edinson Volquez. Gibson was much sharper against these same Royals last week than he was in his debut against the Tigers when the Cats lit him up for six earned runs in only 3 2/3 innings of work. The Royals had far less success against the 27-year-old right-hander last Wednesday when Gibson rebounded with 3-1 victory allowing only one run on 6 2/3 innings of work.

Edinson Volquez was on the short end of that decision Wednesday when he gave up a two-run blast to Oswaldo Arcia and then a sacrifice fly to Brian Dozer leading to the 3-1 defeat. However, Burnett pitched just fine in his debut when he sank the Tigers on April 9th in a 4-1 decision allowing just four hits on one run.

The total has gone ‘under’ the MLB odds 11 times on 18 occasions over the past three seasons. Kyle Gibson is more the pitcher we saw last Wednesday when he mowed down this lineup than the one who got torched for six runs in a little over three innings in his debut. Burnett is a classy veteran who can easily handle the likes of this Twins lineup so I don’t see fireworks in this one as these pitchers should duel in pretty much the same fashion as they did last week.

MLB Pick: Play ‘under’ 8 (-115) at BetDSI

Astros (2-9-1 O/U) vs. Mariners (7-5 O/U)
Asher Wojciechowski takes the mound for his second start of the season. His first start didn’t go very well. The Indians clubbed him for four runs on eight hits including two dingers in just four plus innings of work resulting in a 5-1 defeat.

Japanese import Hisashi Iwakuma gets the assignment today for the Mariners. Iwakuma has struggled in his first two starts getting hammered for four earned runs in each of his outings in just 11 total innings of work.

Though the ‘under’ has clicked 10 of 16 games between these two clubs over the last three seasons I feel the ‘over’ has plenty of value here. Neither pitcher is throwing the ball well at a time when both offenses are clicking. Seattle found their hitting groove last night against Texas when they outmuscled the Rangers by an 11-10 score while the Astros have been swinging the bat well over their last four appearances plating 17 runs in that span. Look for these teams to get downright offensive tonight in Seattle, and take the Over with your MLB picks.

MLB Pick: Play ‘over’ 7 ½ (-115) at BetDSI
