The Cleveland Indians are among one of the surprise teams this season and currently lead their division. Today they take on the Minnesota Twins in Minnesota and we are going to take a look at the total for this ballgame.

Odds makers have set a pretty high total but on closer examination I think it could be for a good reason.

The MLB odds ave come out for the total on this game at 9 like at Heritage sports -110. For my MLB pick I'm going to back over the total in this matchup as both these teams have the capability to not only score but they had success against these particular pitchers taking the mound today. I expect the runs to come early and often in this matchup.

Cleveland Indians
Josh Tomlin gets the start for Cleveland and comes in with a 3.51 ERA and 1.12 whip and an impressive 9-2 record. He has been a good starter for the Indians this season but has had his share of runs allowed at times. Although he has kept the earned runs to some respectable numbers he has been giving up the long ball at an impressive rate his past six starts allowing 11 total in that span.

As well, against this particular Twins team this season in two starts he has allowed seven earned runs in just under 12 innings along with four home runs in those games. Don't expect him to get out of Minnesota today unscathed. At the plate Cleveland has been one of the better hitting teams in all of baseball ranking sixth in runs scored per game, eighth in total bases, and 10th in slugging. They have also had some success in the past against today's starter for the Twins so I expect them to put up their fair share of runs.

Minnesota Twins
Kyle Gibson takes the mound today for Minnesota and comes in with a 5.02 ERA and 1.48 whip with the Twins hitting .252 as a team which ranks 17th in the major leagues. Gibson is better than those numbers but he has struggled at times allowing four runs or more in five of his last 10 starts. He has pitched a bit better at home but still holds a 4.10 ERA in Minnesota.

He has not faced the Indians this season but last year he struggled in two starts allowing six earned runs in just under nine innings pitched for a 6.23 ERA as well as allowing two home runs in that stretch. The biggest issue for me pitching wise as far as Minnesota is concerned is that Gibson has not gone very deep recently and is only pitched up to seven innings twice in his last 10 games.

That leaves the door open for Cleveland to do some damage against one of the worst relief staffs in baseball as Minnesota's bullpen holds a 4.48 ERA with batters hitting .273 against them both of which rank the third worst in the American League. At the plate Minnesota ranks in the middle of the league in a lot of categories most notably ranking 13th and 14th in total bases in slugging respectively. They should come into this game with some confidence having hit Tomlin hard already this season.

Free MLB Pick: Twins Under 9 -110
Best Line Offered: at Heritage

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":2993984, "sportsbooksIds":[169,93,1096,999996,1602], "LineTypeId":3, "PeriodTypeId":1 }[/]
