For this game what we're going to look at the total as MLB odds makers have set it pretty high. Will we see another slugfest or will the pictures keep the run totals in check?

The MLB Odds have come out for the total of this game at 9.5 like at Bookmaker -110. For my MLB Picks today I like for the bats to stay hot and for both of these teams to score enough to get over this high total. Neither starting pitcher is particularly good and neither relief staff is lights out.

Boston Red Sox
Rick Porcello takes the mound today for Boston and comes in with a 4.04 ERA and 1.08 whip with the Red Sox hitting .291 leading the major leagues. Porcello has been decent this year but he has been also consistent in giving up runs on the road. This will be his fourth start on the road and in his last three games he has given up 12 runs in 18 innings.

Overall on the road this season he has a 4.81 ERA with batters hitting .256 against him. Although Minnesota is not a very formidable hitting team they are at home and should be able to put up more than a few runs. At the plate Boston is one of the best in the league and displayed an onslaught yesterday with 15 runs.

They rank first in the major leagues in runs per game, batting average, hits per game, and OPS. Up and down the lineup they are extremely good and can produce runs in a hurry. I expect for them to continue their hot hitting from yesterday to continue into today and for them to put up quite a few.

Minnesota Twins
Pat Dean takes the mound for Minnesota with a 4.75 ERA and 1.48 whip while the Twins are hitting .244 as a team which ranks 19th in the major leagues. Dean has only recently been entered into the rotation but for the most part is a relief pitcher. He has got knocked around quite a bit in his last two appearances allowing eight earned runs in just nine innings pitched off of 16 hits. He simply is not the type of pitcher I believe that can keep Boston low in the box score.

Once they get to him they will face Minnesota's really poor bullpen which ranks as one of the worst in major league baseball. Currently Minnesota relievers have a 4.43 ERA ranking them second to last in the American League while allowing batters to hit .281 against them which ranks them last.

As well, they have given up 33 home runs this season which also rank them last as a relief squad. At the plate Minnesota is decent and were able to put up a few runs yesterday but are in anyway a dominant hitting team. However, for the most part at home their offensive statistics go up like their OPS which jumps from .685 on the road to .722 in Minnesota.

I don't expect them to produce a tremendous amount of runs today but I do expect for them to score enough to help us get over this total.
