We're going to look at the total on MLB Odds when McHugh & Houston take on Shoemaker in LA. Both pitched well last week against the same teams, can they do it again?

The MLB odds have set the total for this game at 7.5 like at Pinnacle Sports -105. For my MLB pick I'm going to back under the total and look for both of these pitchers to have a repeat performance of how they did just last week. Both these guys are better than their numbers indicate and neither offense is setting the world on fire.

Houston Astros
Collin McHugh gets the start for Houston and comes in with a 4.70 ERA and 1.43 whip. Just last week he pitched a very solid ball game in Houston versus this same Los Angeles team allowing just two earned runs off of five hits in seven innings. The funny part about that game was the fact that it was looking like he was going to get the loss but the Astros rallied on his behalf in the ninth-inning.

His numbers aren't great right now but he has pitched well his last two games allowing only three earned runs total in just over 13 innings of work. Behind them is one of the better relief staffs in the American League with a 3.20 ERA and allowing batters just a .227 average. At the plate the Astros rank in the middle of the league in most categories like runs per game, OPS, and total bases.

However, they rank in the bottom of the league hitting just .245 as a team and they rank dead last in strikeouts averaging well over nine per game.

Los Angeles Angels
Matt Shoemaker takes the mound for Los Angeles and comes in with a 4.43 ERA and 1.28 whip with the Angels hitting .260 as a team which ranks 11th in the major leagues. Shoemaker, like McHugh, is much better than his numbers and recently has been pitching very well allowing just four earned runs in his last three starts in 21 innings.

At the plate Los Angeles is similar to Houston ranking for the most part in the middle of the league in most categories. They do rank first and the very opposite of Houston in strikeouts per game but outside of a couple of their key players there is a lot of production in the Angels lineup. Currently they rank 20th in OPS, 18th in runs per game, and 21st in total bases.

They were not very successful off McHugh last week and I don't expect for them to light him up today. The Angels relief pitching is subpar and Houston Street did not pitch well in Houston but I expect if he gets a chance to closeout a game at home he will have a little bit of revenge on his mind.
