Our MLB analyst provides a betting preview for Sunday night’s game between the Dodgers and Pirates. Go inside to read this insightful article that culminates with a MLB pick.

Sunday Night MLB on ESPN
The Pirates and Dodgers will wrap up their three game weekend series on Sunday night at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. The opening pitch is slated for 8:05 PM ET and the game will be televised by ESPN. Current MLB Odds at has the Dodgers as a -260 money line favorite in addition to a total of 6.5. Matchbook also has Los Angeles at -137 on the run line.

The Pirates have taken the first two games of this series by scores of 8-6 on Friday and 6-1 yesterday. Since 2014, Pittsburgh has gone 12-3 against the Dodgers, and that includes 7-1 at PNC Park.

Ace in the Hole
Do you want to know how valuable Clayton Kershaw has been to the Dodgers thus far in 2016? When Kershaw is their starting pitcher, Los Angeles has gone 14-1, and without him they’re just 27-34. Even more compelling, the Dodgers are a perfect 7-0 in away games with Kershaw, and a dismal 11-20 on the road with the rest of their starting pitchers. Basically he’s singlehandedly kept the Dodgers within shouting distance of NL West leader San Francisco, and firmly entrenched in the National League wild card race.

Kershaw has posted a remarkable 1.57 ERA and 0.67 WHIP in his 15 starts this season. What may be his most impressive statistic this year is a 141/7 strikeout to walk ratio. The star southpaw has allowed 2 earned runs or less in 14 of 15 starts this year, and that includes in each of his last 10 outings. He’s also gone 7.0 innings or more in all but one start this year, and has amassed 10 strikeouts or more in 9 of his previous 12 outings.

MLB Debut for Rookie Pirates Hurler
Pittsburgh has listed 23-year-old Chad Kuhl as their probable starter on Sunday. Kuhl was a 9th round draft choice of the Pirates in 2013, and tonight would mark his first career big league start. He was just recently called up from AAA Indianapolis of the International League.

The youngster allowed 2 earned runs or less in his first 10 starts for Indianapolis. However, he’s been extremely shaky in his last four prior to his call up. During those four starts, Kuhl compiled a poor 6.75 ERA and massive 2.20 WHIP.

Final Take and Pick
Prior to taking the first two games of this series, Pittsburgh had gone a futile 2-13 in its previous 15 outings. Contrarily, heading into this three game set, Los Angeles had won six straight and eight of nine.

You can be rest assured that the Pirates bullpen will be called upon this evening. After all, Kuhl has lasted 5 2/3 innings or less over his last four starts in the minors. The Pittsburgh bullpen has a terrible combined 6.49 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over their last seven games.

There’s no sense trying to overly dissect this matchup. I’m going with Kershaw and Los Angeles on the run line for one of my Sunday MLB Picks.
