The Dodgers have been scuffling as of late, but they'll have a good chance at getting back on the winning side this evening as the MLB odds-on favorites against Arizona.
Along with the Blue Jays (at home to Miami this evening), the Dodgers are the biggest favorites on the MLB odds board for Monday night. They're trading at right around -170 to get the victory.
That leaves the visiting Diamondbacks in the +155 to +160 range. If you're more interested in attacking the total, the O/U can be found at 7.5 runs.
Los Angeles Dodgers (Bolsinger)
It's been a tough month for the Dodgers so far, as they've gone 3-5 in eight games. They just wrapped up a four-game home set against the Cardinals in which they lost three times, a poor series that saw their overall record drop to 32-25. The good news? Star outfielder Yasiel Puig made his long-awaited return from injury in last night's finale, so that should be a massive boost for the ballclub going forward.
It's not as if the Dodgers were struggling at the plate as it is. They've been the most prolific offense against right-handed pitching, and now they get one of the premier hitters in all of baseball back in the mix. That's a scary thought for the rest of the MLB.
Los Angeles will be hoping to kick things off on the right foot in another home series, this time against the Diamondbacks. Mike Bolsinger gets the start in the opener, and he's enjoyed a great start to his season, going 3-1 with a 1.98 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. The right-hander did, however, have his shakiest outing of 2015 his last time out, so it'll be interesting to see how he responds against Paul Goldschmidt and company tonight.
Arizona Diamondbacks (De La Rosa)
The Diamondbacks just split a series 2-2 at home against the Mets, and now they head out on the road for an extended west coast swing that will see them take on the Dodgers, Giants and Angels. It's certainly not going to be an easy stretch for an Arizona team that's currently 27-29 on the season.
Rubby De La Rosa will be looking to give Arizona a lift in the series opener tonight, though his early season numbers aren't going to instill much confidence. He's 4-2 but onlys a dreadful 5.09 ERA to go with a 1.22 WHIP; he's especially struggled over his two most recent starts, allowing 15 hits and 11 earned runs over 10 innings of work in no decisions against the Braves and Brewers
De La Rosa has taken on the Dodgers once already this season, allowing three hits and five earned runs (all of the damage came on two home runs) in five innings of a 8-0 loss. Can he fare better the second time around?
We like the Dodgers in this situation.
De La Rosa hasn't been quite as bad as his on-the-surface numbers may suggest, but he's still been knocked around quite a bit, and now he has to come to terms with this potent Los Angeles lineup, one that just got Puig back in the mix. It's going to take a heroic pitching performance from the right-hander, and we just don't buy that he'll get through this start unscathed.
Meanwhile, Bolsinger has been a rock at the bottom of the rotation for the Dodgers, and he's only allowed a grand total of one run in three home starts this season. If he can find a groove early on, Los Angeles should be in a great spot to right their recent wrongs and get back on the winning side of things. To maximize value with our MLB picks, we're adding the Dodgers on the run-line.
