The Cardinals aim to win three in a row for the first time in a month as they host the Phillies Sunday afternoon. Veteran Adam Wainwright is scheduled to duel against Aaron Nola in the contest. Game pick and betting preview here.

Philadelphia Phillies (21-39)

The Phillies own the lowest winning percentage (.350) in MLB. Their record away from Citizens Bank Park is abysmal, going 9-25 SU. Philly scores 3.53 per game, yet allow 4.97. Since beating the Cubs on May 1, the club has one road victory versus a team with 45 percent win rate or better.

Manager Pete Mackanin turns to Aaron Nola for today’s start. The curveball pitcher is 3-3 with a 4.28 ERA in seven appearances this year. Nola missed most of late April and May with a lower back strain and is 1-4 since returning from the DL.

The promising youngster picked up the win in his only career start versus the Cardinals in May 2016. Nola tossed 7.0 shutout innings, yielding 2 hits, one walk while striking out seven.

The Phillies are 9-10 as a road underdog behind Nola in his career. Since beating St. Louis in the aforementioned game, the right-handers best stuff has vanished. Nola has not put in a quality start as an away pup since the Phils going 2-6 SU. The staff yields 7.38 runs per game in this situation. Prior to the St. Louis victory, the team was 6-4, allowing 3.2 runs per contest.

 St. Louis Cardinals (28-32)

The Cardinals’ 7-0 victory over Philly Friday night made it two wins in a row after dropping seven straight. The last calendar month has not been kind to the Redbirds. It is 9-18 overall, losing 30 percent investment to bettors at -107 odds on average. The offense is ice cold. St. Louis is crossing the plate 3.30 times per game in this stretch as opposed to 4.64 prior.

Two-time NL wins leader Adam Wainwright will look to make it career number 141 Sunday afternoon. He is 6-4 with a 4.82 ERA through 12 starts this season. Wainwright yielded 9 earned runs on 7 hits in 3.2 innings in a 13-1 loss to the Reds last time out. It was only the second time in his career gifting 9 earned or more in a start, also allowing as many versus Cincinnati in 2013.

Wainwright is 35-years old and has fallen flat of his lifetime numbers since tearing his Achilles in April 2015. Post-injury, he owns a 4.72 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. The Cards are 29-16 SU behind Wainwright in this stretch, propping up the three-time All-Star with 5.22 runs per game. As home chalk in this span, the team is 12-5 SU, outscoring opponents by 2.12 runs per game.

The Phils are 1-8 in their last 9 games at Busch Stadium. They average 2.22 runs per game, failing to score more than 4 runs in all but one. Wainwright should rebound from a career-low outing, while the Phils road woes continue. Cards on the run line is the MLB pick on this one.
