Our MLB handicapper shared a hot tip on how Andrew Triggs’ velocity had declined very quickly over the last few games in his last match up. We faded Triggs and Oakland to fantastic results.

I was fully expecting Andrew Triggs to hit the DL by now, especially after getting destroyed in his last start after we started fading him because of his sudden loss of velocity. He’s dropped 2 ticks on his fastball since mid-May; turning the low-90’s offering into a high-80’s meatball. His ERA has gone from 1.84 in April, to 3.45 in May, and to 14.73 in June. After giving up just one home run over his last seven starts, Triggs has given up 5 in his last four. Something is broken with Triggs and he cannot be trusted, well he can only be trusted to get hammered.

Starting opposite of Triggs for the Rays is right-hander, Alex Cobb. Cobb is fresh off of a loss in which he gave up 14 hits and 9 runs to the Mariners. It’s the second game that Cobb has given up more than ten hits and Cobb is still running a reasonable 1.43 WHIP and 4.43 FIP. He pitches well at home actually, with a 3.67 ERA and .238 batting average allowed. So, here we have an average pitcher with a good record at home against a broken starter in Triggs. There is a reason that Triggs is an underdog with a 3.36 ERA, and I will keep fading him by taking the Rays on the moneyline as one of my Friday MLB Picks of the Day.

  Texas Rangers vs Washington Nationals

The Texas Rangers are hitting a slump just as they hit the road to visit the NL East leading Washington Nationals. Our MLB handicapper believes that the slump could continue into the weekend.

Andrew Cashner starts this game for the Texas Rangers, and I don’t know about you, but I can’t trust a pitcher with a 3.86 K/9 rate, 4.32 BB/9 rate, and 25/28 K/BB ratio. Cashner doesn’t miss any bats either, and his swinging strike rate has continued to drop from 8.2% in 2015, to 7.3% in 2016, and 5.8% in 2017. His fastball is down 1.5 ticks from last year, and his BABIP of .269 indicates that his 4.86 FIP is his true talent level, not the 3.39 ERA he has put up (with a 2-5 record to boot). Cashner’s BABIP of .247 on the road is especially due for regression.

Cashner goes up against Tanner Roark and his 6-2 record and 3.37 FIP. Roark has limited home runs this year to a 9.9% HR/FB rate and has a 1.24 WHIP without any BABIP warning signs. Anthony Rendon, Ryan Zimmerman, and Daniel Murphy all rested on Thursday, so I expect a full lineup for Washington as they start their home stand. Washington rolls Cashner in this spot, so I am taking them at -1.5 plus odds.
